I'm after a mid range winch and bumper for my 110 (when I get it). I'm not into serious off roading, but want something reasonable. I don't really want a posh tube type thing and want to keep the front end looking as original as possible. What sort of thing should I be looking for, and just as importantly, are there any winches or bumpers with a poor reputation that I should avoid?

guardian bumpers are good but the paint finish is thin so they scratch easy,
as for winches one of my cousins has a t-max 12000 thing on his bobtail disco and its ok ish, it all depends on how much you want too spend

do you want it to look something like this then ???

Hi,

Was wondering the same.

Wanna spent about 300-400 ish, min 8000lb pull. What do you guys recommend? Tis to go on a disco 1

O and its gotta cope with getting wet.

Yep, just like that! Maybe without the A-bar if possible but that's pretty nice. What is it?

I've seen the TDS winches. David Bowyer sells them? They look good but the line pull is quite quick and they seem to struggle under load?. That's the sort of price range I'm looking at, £500-£750ish with bumper.

The T-Max 9500 Outback looks good too and is slower and more steady, but it has in drum brakes which if I'm right, makes the drum hot when it's working hard? I'd quite like to run a synthetic rope if they have a decent lifespan?

I already have a Tirfor. Have you ever had to pull a vehicle up a long slippery hill with one, maybe running 3 or 4 lengths of cable through it before you get to traction again? I have, and that's why I want an electric winch!!!

check out these guys. I bought a superwinch LP8500 and bumper from them. They were very helpful. They haven't changed their website since the VAT reduction, so you could probably get an other few quid off.

I've been on that site for a look. I'm thinking the standard Defender bumper and either a Superwinch husky 10 or T-max 12500. I'd like to go for the T-max if it's good enough. That's what I need to work out though, is it good enough?

Does anyone on here uses a 12500lb T-Max on their landy? Or a Husky for that matter? How much better is a Husky? I like the idea of a worm drive, but it's double the price!

My mate has got a Husky on his 110 and the winch and bumper are huge! No doubt it's fantastic, but carrying all that extra weight around when it hardly gets used seems a bit overkill to me. I've got a T-Max 11000lb jobby on the back of my defender and it's not let me down yet. It isn't the quickest winch in the world, but it was very cheap (about £350ish I think) and has had plenty of use pulling me back out of trouble!

whay are you peeps still waffling on about unreliable leccy winches ?

the correct answer was given in post 3 of this thread

From the original post the question was "I'm after a mid range winch and bumper.."

not "what's the best winch for reliable occasional use"

the correct answer was given in post 3 of this thread

Which is a good answer, but not to the question asked ... ;)
