What winch power?

Looking at a winches for the 90 and was wondering what sort of pulling power I would need? would a 9500lb super winch cut it? my 90 is fairly standard but has a bit of extra weight with winch bumper, rock sliders and all the other bits. Its for occasional use, not all the time mainly self recovery. Would I need a separate battery? My battery that I have is quite a hefty one. Thanks.

I have a 8000lb Ramsey on my 110. For vehicles that are not totally bogged to their axles, a single line pull from that is usually perfectly adequate. For vehicles that are well & truly stuck, then a double line pull with a snatch block is needed. I also have a twin battery setup with deep cycle batteries.

Right so I gather 9500 would be plenty. I am looking at a super winch tigershark. We all want Warns but that cost

. The battery I have is a heavy duty marine one. So I can now say the winch would be powerful enough, will the battery be up to par? I don't really want to spend out for a dual battery setup. besides, with this battery I doubt I could fit any other reasonable battery in the box!

what is the amp rating for battery and what is your alternator out put

From what I remember, it is this battery and has only been in about 4 months:
Numax CXV31MF Sealed Leisure Battery 12V 110Ah 1000MCA 500 Cycles XV31MF - Leisure Batteries - Numax Leisure Batteries

As for the alternator, its standard, whatever the output of that is.

might sound silly, but I got myself stuck in a very boggy ex coal mine heap in an 88.
I put a 3000lb I think winch on the rear as a joke. It cost £30 on ebay from a chap who towed his caravan up his drive.
It got me out, it did struggle, but did not die.
The winch wire rope was about the diameter as some people use for brush wires.

But if you want to use it and think OH WELL I HAVE A WINCH they buy a decent one that you know will be reliable.

you should be fine. i run a goodwinch 9.5 on my 200tdi 90. the alternator output is 60amp as standard iirc or slightly more if you have replaced it. mines got dual batteries however.

important thing is to ensure you get adequate (i.e. 35-40mm2) cable for both positive and negative all the way back to battery as this helps to ensure you get the most from the winch.
