Hi All,
I was wondering if any of you good people could tell me what I would require to improve the power in my 1998 Disco 300tdi, I am aware of a larger cooler and fitting a stainless exhaust with out a cat but I am a bit lost with what other bits can be done to improve the performance.
I have about £2000 to spend but can go a little higher if needed.

Thanks in advance,
Trevor.

The turbo, if you look in behind it about 2 inches from the exahust manifold, you will see a rod which goes into the turbo:
1. Undo the locknut - take care as it may be a bit stuck.
2. Pop the circlip off the end spindle, and slip the end off the spindle.
3. SHORTEN the wee rod exactly TWO full turns.
4. Slip the end back on the spindle.
5. Tighten the locknut.
6. Try it out!

you should notice a pretty big difference...

Secondly, buy an EGR plate from ebay, put this onto the exhaust manifold before the valve preferably, this will stop exahust gas recirculating through the engine, giving it good clean fresh air, I reckon you could do these two things for about £8 not a big spend and should have some good results...

If you want it to go faster you've bought the wrong vehicle, sell it and buy a car...

Hi discomania,
Thanks for the info I will have a go and see if it improves things, but with regards to your last comment I am not into speed I just need better performance for when I am towing my rather large caravan as it struggles up the hills.

Thanks again,

Trevor.

Fair enough... those two thing will help you then... fitted another EGR plate last weekend to a 110, the acceleration was greatly increased and when towing a trailer full of sheep up 'the hill' (this is a grassy steep hill) it made lots of difference, the acceleration was better and had the power to pull well.
