Brain fade, the Wranglers are 55's. I was looking for tyres at the same time for my MR2 and they are 60's

Running Falken S/TZ01 road tyres in 255/55 18. Good grip on-road, very quiet, good fuel economy... But utterly hopeless off-road, or in snow. Cheap though- think they were only £95 or so.

Have some Kingpin Amazons and 16" modular steelies being shipped to me as we speak for the rough stuff...

The car has always tramlined like a barsteward since I bought it, but I'm putting that down to the knackered bushes and shocks that I'm shortly going to change. Putting the falkens on actually improved it quite a bit.

Yokohama Geolandar AT/S 255/65/16. Don't seem to be very popular on the forum but find them excellent, quiet, good ride, great handling and will have been on 3 years in April so have lasted well.

Toyo Open Country AT. I've had em for 8 months now and they are simply excellent, over 10,000miles now and they still look like new.

The speed rating must be at or above that recommended for your vehicle, I know that much.... would presume the same applies to load rating.


Data - good to hear your recommendation for the Good Years - I just ordered some Good Year Wranglers from Profil+ here in France (nationwide chain) they are offering a very good deal at the moment... worked out at about €120 (£100) fitted and balanced per tyre. Just in case any of you other French habitants are interested! Deal ends in a few days though......

They are replacing the Michelins on the front which look like they have been on the car since new!! Can't be possible (85K miles on the clock now) but they are being replaced due to cracking of sidewall rather than being worn out.

General Grabber ATs can be got for £130 - mebbe even less. Not sure £95 sounds so cheap with that in mind.

My P38 came with Suntek tyres on the rear when I bought it, they were fitted by a L/R dealer as it happens (receipt came with the car). I was a bit apprehensive and mentally budgeted to replace them , but honestly can't fault them.... so they are staying!

In winter running Continental Conti Cross 255 65 16. Brilliant on snow and ice.

My brother runs those on his little Daihatsu - he's very impressed with them, going by the incredible feats he seems to achieve off road they can't be too bad! I've lost count of Defender owners getting out and asking how we'd followed them through tricky bits off road!

18" Bridgestone A.T.'s.
Wear well, no handling problems, quiet and good grip in snow. £150 a corner all in.

Personally i use rubber ones on mine. The glass ones tend to chip badly going over speed humps.

Cotinental cross contact on mine, had vredestein wintrac 4's on the front previously.No probs with either.:crazy_driver:

err..... thanks.

that said those little daihatsus are impressive, i remember taking a feroza off road back in the '90s. tight turning circle, great articulation but most of all so light that it could skip across where others lumbered.

On road, absolutely unremarkable. I've driven 100s of kms through torrential rain without a wiggle. I'm honestly surprised by the longevity of these tyres because I always felt they were quite sticky and expected them to wear out sooner.

Not been seriously offroad in the wet but crossing occasional streams etc, no problems.

Round ones, the square ones are a bastard to balance.
