Hi,

I'm new to this forum and looking to pick your collective brain.

I have a P Reg 300 Tdi with possibly the most basic spec possible: Wind up windows, mat green paint, cloth seats, no aircon etc (less to go wrong!) and steel 16 inch wheels.

I bought this from a farmer friend with only 85000 miles on last year and only really used to tow the horsebox and when i went shooting. As a result, it hasn't really been off road, rather a few rough tracks etc.

However, i have need to go more off road now for something else but fear my road tyres are going to let me down. I have 205/80 R16s on currently.

What is the best compromise (road/off road) tyre and does any one know what the widest tyre i can fit to this rim is? Am i jusr better getting a set of ebay to fit 235s etc?

All help gratefully received - thanks!

Thanks MHM, I have done, and that's why i tapped this in! I couldn't find the answer there.

The BFG A/T's are a good tyre reports off 100'000miles off of one set but come at a cost, and if you are using them off road a split in the side wall cannot be repaired.

I am currently running 235/85 r16's on my disco1 they are off a 55 plate 90 :D
not used them off road yet but seem to last well on the road, They are general Grabbers.

Have you looked at the mods you have to do to fit 235's???
