My better half is looking in buying one quite soon !!!

Well she decided last night that she wants to get rid of the Coopers and she wants to buy one tommorow

What would you suggest to look for and what are the reliability like please !!

Just had my exhaust manifold changed today at 80k miles (on an 03 plate). Other than that there has not been anything major. Look out for stiff gear change and signs that the Disco has been driven hard on the motorway and was once a company car. Look for water ingress from the sun roof if fitted and also rear door seal. Avoid anything that kicks out black smoke. I was bid as little as £6k for mine recently (its a GS with alcantara interir etc) so there should be plenty of honest motors out there in 4x4 specialists and private sales.

How much does a major service cost on it!

Does the boot floor rust on it quite bad like the earlier ones as in d1

Major Service was 72k and cost £1,697!!!

But i'll break it down for you in case it turns you off TD5s completly!!

Upgraded chip, side steps and labour cost £752

Labour for 72k service was £128 and largest items were Fuel Filter, £37.20, Engine Oil, £39.95, I had discs and pads fitted £135, Rear Pads £39.95 and also a rear hub at £180 + £40 labour oh and a Diff Pinion oil seal supplied and fitted for £45.

After selling a kidney I had enough change for a Big Mac Meal before going home to hide the evidence from the wife!

Happy motoring!

and the manifold, studs, gasket and labour hit me for £400 today. All done by a local independent Landrover speciaist called HBH Landrover in Caerphilly.

Hehehe
The good thing is its the other half thats going to get it and shel have to pay the bill...:D :D

I get to stick to my 200 which is a tad more cheaper to service

Just bought one and had it checked by independent dealer - put on the diagnostic gadget and found there was a misfire when cold - new injection wiring loom needed - estimate £89 including labour. Small leaks from fuel pump and ACE pump but otherwise sound. ( 2000 GS 5 seater)

had mine a few months now..replaced fuel regulator, leaking sunroofs, burst ACE pipe and now seem to have a leak on the PAS..all seem pretty common faults and i,m sure we all work slowly through them, so try and find one with all the pain in the a**e jobs done is my advice !!!

From 90,000 miles.

1) Relay to indicators fails in the on position, turning the o/s indicators on (not flashing) £10
2) Injector harness fails, giving a missfire. Both injector and engine bay harness changed as car going to south France the following week. £250.
3) Head gasket failure whilst in Toulouse. £660
4) Tailgate lock assembly fails, £65
5) O/S rear hub failure, cleans the end of ABS sensor off, requiring replacement £320
6) Ignition key/remote fails. Replacement required. £120
7) Air suspension compressor fails. £235

Currently at 100,800 miles. £1660 in repairs later.

The compressor has now failed again (warrenty though, it lasted 6 days!)

Thanks to CharlesY for help and advice on the injectors, even if he is a yorkie chomping lorry driver.;)

Would I part with it, probably not, it's mostly new now and still a cracking car to drive.
Does it p!$$ me off? Oh fk yes. LR main problem is the financial engineer's.....

christ from what the missus wants its like finding a needle in a haystack

She wants a Black es 7 seater with full leather reasonably low mileage

The biggest way to save on servicing costs is to do it yourself,I can't see you saving much on the price of parts if the works being done in a garage and they are supplying them.
