Hi all

not sure if you read any of my other threads but im in a dilemma here

right i got a very very cheap 2002 freelander v6 auto (no runner paid around 100 pounds for complete car)

Now the car it in much much better condition than my td4 also full leather etc etc where mines base model

any way i managed to get her started but had the death rattle so I've modded that (hopefully when back on the car it fixes problem)

while doing that i also noticed coolant in the v of the engine (thermast slightly leaking)

Now the thing is im still in 2 minds if to totally fix this car to run it or still just strip it

what should i do ?
1, refit the manifold ,leave the thermostat right now and take it for a MOT ? that way before i start spending money i know if its worth it or not (can always take manifold back of and fix the thermostat at if it passes the MOT with out major problems)

2, refit the manifold and fix thermostat now BEFORE MOT

end of day i dont mind wasting my time on the car as my time is free but i dont want to be spends lots just to find cars no good

cheers
griff

Why not take it for MoT - if it passes, great; if not, use the 10-day restest period to sort any probs including stat. MoTs are great decision-makers.

Since you've already had some of it apart any further stripping will be extra-quick, and as you said your time is free. You've invested so little money in the car, and stand to make a good profit if you sell it in GWO with long MoT. All because someone was scared of a little rattle!

Having said that, I seem to remember something about bubbles in the coolant tank - any further news on this?

well as for the bubbles ,when i got it running i ran it to temp ,left it running for about 1/2 an hr or so and nothing out of ord

yes the water in tank if looking close moves but only seemed to move around where the return water comes in so i would say all normal and no bubbles

as for the slight coolant it was loosing again if thermosat is leaking it would loose coolant

but sell it to make money na its that nice a car if all goes well im going to run it ,i spent alot of time on my 5dr td4 getting that in GWO but i would keep this and sell the TD4 to be honest

like i said my td4 is base model where as this is much higher spec ,leather, aircon etc

Top up the coolant and take it for the MOT. Decide what to do with it once you know the car is worth sorting. Your bubbling coolant could be because the previous owner let it go a bit low. This would draw in air which would self bleed out again when the coolant was topped up, giving said bubbles. The coolant in the V is likely to be where it was lost in the first place.

well over here in germany its poo as we have to bfg out cars (bit like mot) and placed closed till tues because of easter it sucks
