Hi guys this is my first post so be kind hahahaha

I've got a 97 land rover discovery v8 es model and I have just put in a new cd/radio and have taken direct wires to all the speakers instead of using the original connections because I couldn't work out which speaker was which in the original plug! I have cut the wire for the speakers only at the front left and righthand sides which also control the tweeters but have discovered that the rear electric windows no longer go up and down!!
I don't know what is wrong and I have not touched any other wires!!
Please help!!:(:(

The whole idea of the standard fixings in cars and stereos these days is that you dont have to mess around running wires etc. I just fitted a new sony in my ES and it was a straight swap.

I would suggest that you go back and reconnect every wire you chopped. Remove the stereo, connector block the cables for now and see what happens. If you only chopped the cables on the big square plug that goes into the head unit then I would say the window pronblem is coincidental. Check fuses just in case.

Best of luck and go easy with those snippers!

oh dear.... the sterio won't put up your windows! ...
double check you haven't cut through th e wires to your windows

if i remember correcty the front window motor wires are gray blue / grey black /

the iso conector behind the sterio i will assume that you have cut this of or its not there...

here are the colours so you can wire up the new one to the factory
wires...

live 12+ yellow
ign 12+ red
earth black
Remote blue

white /white black left front -
white left front +

green / green black left rear -
green rear +

Purple / Purple black right rear -
purple rear +

Grey / grey black right front-
grey front+

to double check the disco wiring get or make a small test light orborrow a meter..

connect one side to ground. IE the cig lighter. and probe the wires one by one till you find a live wire.. that wire will be the live wire for the memory. now do the same with the ignition on and check again.... and so on etc

to find the speakers get a small "AAA" batery and do the following.

you need 8 wires ie 4 pairs of speakers to pair up from in the dash.

normally the colours are simerler. so start there.

get hold of 1 wire and put it to the + side of the AAA battery.

chose another wire and gently tap onto the - side of the AAA battery

when you hear a low pop or crackle that is a correct pair. tape up and mark as RR/RL / FR / FL etc

to check the pollarity , if the speaker moves out when you apply a volt into it then the +- are the correct way round . if it goes in then -+ need swapping..

i hope this is of some use to you.

regards
mick:)

Hey good tip with the AAA battery, Ive been an electrician for a long time and never thought of that one, I usually stick a multimeter set on ohms across the terminals and you hear something. ES has 8 speakers so he's going to be busy!

Thanx for the above info but I have just finished checking the connections and they seem to be fine. I have only cut the connector block to the head unit and I've also cut the wires from the front left and right speakers/tweeters only so surely they wouldn't have anything to do with the rear windows! Just out of interest when I connected the speaker wires positive and negative to my new head unit wires it shorted out the stereo. Anyone have any suggestions?:confused::confused:

mmmm something dont seem right there young man!
my advice is as follows.
redo all the conections that you cut or altered prior to fitting the radio.
check all the fuses under the dash / Bonnet.
and run new speaker wires from the head unit to the doors and rear L/R sides.the tweeters are connected stright to the woofers via a built in crossover.
there must me a short in the door rubber thing that is intermittent.check that to...
if i lived near you i would come out and have a butchers....
