What the hell has happened to my 90?

Hi everyone I've just signed up
I was driving to work this morning and suddenly I loose my gears and the clutch,
So I pull over and check my gearstick etc and all I can see is a massive crack inbetween the gearstick and the diff lock.
It's some sort of plate that the actual gear stick and diff bolt on to but it's snapped clean in half
What's happend?
Is the whole gear box toast?

Haha thanks that's re-assuring ,I just know my dads going to start spitting nails when he sees what's happend to my gearbox

What gearbos is it?
If not sure where is reverse gear?

Hi I think it's an lt77 (reverse is top left of the 5 gears)

[GALLERY=][/GALLERY]if it's a 300tdi, then it looks like it's cracked across the housing remote plate (FRC8558) which suggests the LT85 tbox has somehow come away from the gearbox?

was there a bang?

if its the LT77 then it might only be the gear change housing (FTC503) that has cracked. I think that just floats above the gearbox, see below

Thanks for the reply ,the engine is a 2.5td 19j ,it all happend so quickly I think there was some sound but I was in the middle of a busy junction when it happend so I was more focused on trying to get it of everyone's way.

Yeah I've just had a better look at it ,it snapped clean in half exactly where you've said,I just don't see why it's happend? I'm not aggressive when I change gears etc
