What size steel rims for 255/85/16's

Hi ive decided to purchase some new rims for my 90 project, it currently has disco freestyle alloys fitted but they are the wrong offset and sit in too far.

My tyres are 255/85/16 BFG mt's, ive been offered either 7jx16 modulars or 8jx16 modulars both et08 offset.

Which width would suit my tyres best? I was thinking 7j's

255's are 10 inch so I would go with the 8 inch wheels, thats what im running and I got 10.5's

Ive got 265s on 7" rim. They are fine.

Yeah im thinking of 7j's my other 90 has 255's on 8j's and the rims look abit too wide for the tyre.

The main reason for changing the rims is due to the disco rims fouling on the rear spring bracket on the chassis when articulated, i just need some rims with a smaller offset so that they clear the brackets.

I have them on 7s, they look fine, look great actually

Most tyre companies say the maximum you can put on 7j rims is 265, but if you went for 8j rims it would give you a better choice if you ever wanted to go bigger

7 inch should be right for 255 tyres

go for wolfs they look the bomb.

I know but they fit fine. everyone is running 255s on HD rims (wolf)

I like the look of wolf rim defo, I've bought some 7j white mods which will do the job as I'm planning on selling my project on come winter.

But now I'm liking the idea of wolf's so might get a set for my ex mod 90 as It'll look the dogs in my opinion

I'm running 255/100/16 on wolf rims factor in £100 in new studs if you want it Right tho

Just don't go to Jsf in Norwich, they just refused to sell me wolf rims and 255/85 as they said the rims are too narrow..... Shame as they just missed out on a large chunk of money!

They're probably just covering their own arses, but tbh I've just checked Cooper's site, (a bit biased because I've got cooper's), but they say 6.5" is ok for 255 Unless they've had bad experience in the past? As you said though, their loss

Yeah I checked bf Goodrich and they say 6.5 is minimum for 255.... They probably just want to palm off their modulars on me....
