what seats can you put in in 300 series

Bit of a grey area.
Some say P38 seats fit straight in some say they have to be modified a bit.
Range Rover classic seats are supposed to be a straight fit - but then there's two style of mounting points on a D1 as far as front seats are concerned.

Rear seat mounts remained unchanged for the duration of D1 production as far as I'm aware?
D2 rear seats are completely different so they are a no - go. However, RRC seats are definitely an option in this instance and will fit without alteration.
Similarly P38 rear seats are not an option. Although I have heard of folk stripping the leather off a P38 rear seat and recovering their original D1 seat when they've used a set of P38 front seats.

Whilst it's a definitive "no" on D2 rear seats I haven't got an answer re: fronts.

We could really do with a seat compatibility sticky!

Big hint - go to the "Welcome" section and introduce yourself before the natives slaughter you. :D

Bolt in a bit of chequer plate and you can fit anything.

I've seen pics of P38 front seats in a D1, but never seen D2 seats in a D1. Being the owner of a D2 as well as a D1, I'd say the D2 seats aren't particularly comfortable or supportive! In fact I'm even thinking of putting RRC seats into my D2 next year.

I've already fitted RRC seats into my D1. As stated ^^^^ the mounts changed roughly in line with changes to the RRC floorpan. My understanding is that early RRC front seats will fit into 200Tdi D1s, and 'soft-dash' RRC seats will fit into 300Tdis. These are soft dash RRC seats in my '98 D1 -

Again, as ^^^^, its only the fronts that changed

RRC seats are a bit wider and a bit softer than the D1s plus they have the arm rest front and rear.
I believe u have to get rid of the discos cubby box, although the RRC still had the box, (not that I've ever had or wanted to do a replacement) :).

If your fitting replacement electric seats in a vehicle that doesn't already have them then that's a bit more involved.

don't fit rangey classic seats.... they don't last 5 minutes, are uncomfortable, adjustment is nil, you will end up with deep vein thrombosis if driving more than 200 metres.....

I've been looking for a set of leather RRC manualy adjustable leather seats in a shade as is as close as possible to the original bahama beige coloured seats currently in my 300tdi.
Not even seen any for sale so far! :(

I'm starting to think I'll just have to wait until I find something in minty condition and have them re-dyed to black which isn't ideal.

find a dfs sofa technician, have a mate in brum who's worked for them for years as apparently its cheaper to sell problems then send out a troubleshooter if customer complains..... digressing slightly but the job he can do dyeing leather sofas (and refurbing my leather rangey seats) was unbelievable

cheers steve

They were all grey in my day, I'll have to look in my RRC sales brochures and see what the options if any there was, but beige.. we will see if it there was I would had it to go with my RRs green paint work. :).

I'm quite keen to get a set. I'd rather not have to go for grey and dye them black as I'll end up having to turn half the rest of the trim inside the car black to make the seats look like they aren't an after-thought in an otherwise "world of beige" car !

This one is green and has what appears to be beige seats?

There's also a tan / brown set on eBay but the drivers seat base isn't as nice as it could be IMHO.

P38 front seats fit dead easily, took about half hour. Rear seat is a no go. Ultimately, whatever front seats you want will go in, just a question if how much time you want to spend fitting Em.

Can't be having clarity, thats not normal!

So, I'll throw a spanner in for you :) How about Golf GTi seats??? I've had a Golf V5 and these are terrific seats, probably the most comfortable and supportive I've ever had. I think theres a fair bit of fabrication required to get them to fit though - the rears in particular?

Firstly some 300tdi Discovery's had Jay (1989 to 1995) seat bases which are narrower than the later style 300tdi.

The crossover was 1995 as my October 95 (N) 300tdi had later seats which are wider than the early 1995 (M) 300tdi.

Just to confuse things.

Those look awesome! I have four of them in my Defender dcpu. Will find the Recaro LSes very hard to beat for comfort!

Is your thigh support adjustable too?
