My Defender (88') has an R380 in it. The seat box has an extra wee box as part of the gearbox (or transfer box?) clashed. I hear that's quite normal?

How do I know if its an R380 from a disco or a defender? I know there is a difference with the internal selector shaft? But how would I identify what I have?

There is no serial number on the box - I've cleaned it up the best I can, but still cant read it at all!

Well, I am going on the basis that its an R380 because reverse gear is below 5th..... but that may be rubbish!

I'll get a couple photos today and upload

Thanks!
Just for my reference, how do you know? I was told it was out of a discovery which gave it the lower revs at high speed, but is that just the R380 in general, rather than because its a discovery?

The seat box has been notched and a small box was riveted in place to avoid the clash with part of the transfer box. I've removed the small box section for now, but what does everybody else to here? The box makes it difficult to fit sound proof matting (the all in one type).

Thanks
