ok, sorry to bring this thread to life again, but i have heard conflicting stories about fitting LPG to THOR engines. some say DONT AT ALL COST, it will weaken the engine, and others say, best move i ever made.

any THOR owners out there wish to comment? or anyone in the know? complete new fish to the LPG scene.

also, someone told me that if i dont have petrol as well, i cant start the car? it has to be started on petrol then switched to gas, is this right? in my own mind i say B*****T, we have cars here that are pure LPG and they start and run fine.

As long as you keep your cooling system in tip top condition LPG should not pose any extra threat to the longevity on a Thor engine, its just as likely to go bang whether on Petrol or LPG:D

Apart from the coldest winter days I can start my Classic on LPG but it is a single point system so is much easier than a multi point system. There are work arounds as in pre heaters and tweeks in the software but to be honest a system will work fine if left to run as its supposed to, plus your petrol injectors will thank you for it by having a little bit of liquid gold passed through them every time you start up.

I had all these doubts about LPG but once you've tried it you won't regret it. Just smile as it costs you the same as a diesel to run with the added bliss of V8 performance.

auto switching. There is a little loss of performance and my RR sounds a little different on gas - may need a little maintenance - but it make no difference sitting in a jam. Except cost.

Only had my RR 4.6 for a few weeks but running on LPG seems to make no difference to running or performance (it's a Tartarini multipoint system fitted approx 40k miles ago - 105k currently). Starts on petrol & switches over within 1 minute / 1 mile of running. So far i've filled up with 3 full tanks of LPG & still have petrol in tank from when i bought it. Some say it pays to run on petrol once in a while???

thanks guys :)

i think once i find the car, if not already fitted, i'll take it to Blaze and let them fit the kit. wife might kill me when she sees i want to spend 5k n the car, and then another 2.5k on the system. :D:D:D:D:D

If your looking at spending 5k you could find a good example of one with LPG fitted. I got mine for 6.5K - a 2002 Vogue SE (one of the last p38s off the production line)....& i wouldn't say this was a steal by any stretch.

you are right Martyn, i found a few nice cars 00,01 and 1 02 for 5k. not sure if i like the red or not. but it is an autobiography with all extras. i still want green blue or black if i can find 1. if poss i want the THOR engine as i heard they are more reliable. and with a 6 month old boy, i wanted something safe for him to travel in.

Goodfella is selling a very nice black p38 with LPG (see for sale section) @ £6650 - would be very interested myself if i hadn't already taken the plunge :-(. Check it out.
