What make filters/service parts?

What are the collective thoughts on which brands are good/bad for filters? I know that some people only use genuine parts, some others will always buy the cheapest option, and many I'm sure are somewhere in between. Here in Canada Fram oil filters are considered to be the lowest quality option, but what's the deal with Landy parts? Is Britpart any good? Mahle? Coopers? There are others, I realize.
