im looking at putting a new fuel filter and oil filter on my disco, should i put a britpart, a coopers or genuine parts when i come to do it? is there any real difference other than price? cheers. ps i lose a little oil from my truck, whats the best oil to put in it its a 3.9 V8efi XS LPG. can you put slightly thicker oil in to stop it leaking out so quick?

I always use genuine oil filters and 10W40 semi synthetic oil.
If you have a leak it might be best to fix it - oil's not cheap, not to mention the hazards of leaking oil, especially for motorcyclists.

Use coopers or Fram or similar, but DON'T pay for the genuine parts because they are LR stamped coopers or Fram filters if I remember correctly.

At one point I had a genuine and a coopers I think it was, and I gave them both a good inspection and they looked identical, non return valve was the same, the element material was the same the can was the same. Then a few weeks later I saw a document which had all the filter and car manufacturers and who made what and it confirmed my findings.

Also britparts don have non return valves so all the oil pours back out the system into the sump every time you turn it off. There is a noticible difference when you start the engine on a Britpart and a filter with a NRV until the oil light goes out.
