What is this?

The round black plastic thing that is not seated properly on the crossover duct? I pop it back in and when I start the engine it vibrates back out..

How do I secure it in place as from what I can see from the design you can't fit a jubilee clip.

Looks like the engine breather/oil vapour trap, probably needs cleaning out. No bearing on your other problems IMO.

Breather, should haver a rubber grommet which it pushes into.

Will it cause any issues not being plugged in and any idea where I can get this grommet? As it must be missing.

Probably main stealers, they may want to sell the breather as well. I take it that its falling out of the duct, that is the grommet end. It's held in the rocker cover by an "O" ring.

Best if the breather was replaced at the same time IMO.

since I have you guys attention, my car was at the garage for a few weeks so they must have had the battery out (windows needed resetting). When I got it back the other day the boot will no longer open, press the button and nothing. Used to work just fine, the rear doors unlock from the fob, front never have, need to replace the mechnism.

Any idea why the boot won't open or has it just gone like the fronts?

What's the procedure for resyncing the fob to the car see if that sorts it?

If the FOB opens the rear doors, it does not need re-syncing.
The boot is controlled from the drivers door latch mechanism, or it could be the connector to the button, they corrode.

Put down the rear seats and climb into the boot. Take the panel off the lower tailgate and all will be revealed.

Pull the sliding cover down at the bottom and turn the two fasteners to release it.

the grommet is prob still on the breather mine used to come of regular till I glued it in place

Just a thought the boot is operated from the drivers door so when you ptess the boot release is the drivers door unlocked by the key or the interior button ?

manually as the drivers door lock doesn't open from the fob, but it worked before with the front door locks not working off the fob
