I have a 2001 4.6 Vogue. The issue I'm researching is that the central locking appears to work OK except that sometimes when driving the CL has a little fit and locks then unlocks it's self a number of times in succession. If I lock the car while driving it seems to stop the bouncing sessions. As well as this sometimes the car refuses to lock with the remote, but always unlocks with the remote. These things could be linked.

Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it? What was your fix?

Could these symptoms be the early effects of a door latch failure?

Thanks,

LW.....

i have had this on two of mine and both times it was the tailgate (lower)not being latched properly push tailgate both sides to make sure they are latched and try it on a drive

I'd be very pleased if this were just "user error" in the placement of my arm while driving. The fix would be a zero cost one, but that is not the case.
Other symptoms include:
* When unlocking the car with the remote all the doors rapidly unlock then lock. I have to pull the handle a few times to catch it in an unlocked state.
* Sometimes when locking with the remote it simply does not lock. I have to manually use the key the old fashioned way.

I've been too busy replacing all the brake discs and pads this weekend to look into the CL problem further, and am fitting a Janspeed SS Zorst this week so the CL will have to take a back seat for now. I think I will check out all the switches as soon as I have time including the tailgate as I never considered that.

I have this problem with my 2001 DHSE , the tailgate locks all seem to be working fine, there's just a little free play on the rubber seal when its shut which feels about right. When it happens, on average about 4-5 times a day, not every day, perhaps 4 days a week the drivers side doors , the tailgate and only the rear passenger side door lock and unlock quickly asfter unlocking smetimes and sometimes while driving along. I am hoping it is just something to do with the drivers door lock activator connections perhaps? JV ROVERMAN.

well, to atone for my earlier frivolity I have found you this:

Range Rover P38/4.0/4.6 Common Problems and Fixes:

"A related problem is when the doors randomly lock and unlock for no apparent reason. Nathan Bailey had this problem: "Most often it happens when the car is sitting in a parking lot or our driveway, but it has even occured when we are driving. If you lock the doors either with the remote or from inside the car with the button this stops the problem. The dealer thought it was a bad door lock, but was hesitant to replace one when they were not able to duplicate the problem while the car was in for one of its many service visits. The dealer finally figured out the issue -- it was the driver's side door latch. Once they replaced the item ($600.00 parts and labor, thankfully I purchased an extended warranty) the problem was solved. Since the latch has been replaced we have had no occurance of the issue."

I found that text too, as my car does this. Just got 4 Duracell batteries from ebay. Will be fitting them today and will post the results in a week to se if any change has occured.

I never bought the buttons as they are in very good condition.
