As per the title really, I'm taking out the 2.5 petrol engine from my 90 (1988) and would really like to drop in a Rover V8.

But as I understand it the 200tdi is supposed to be the easiest followed by the 300tdi, but how much harder can it be for the V8??

Thing is with the tdi once fitted it works and keeps working, I fitted a tdi to my series 2 over 3 years ago, apart from a dicky inj pump and general servicing its been pretty good, same as the tdi in my 90, one breakdown between the two in 4 years and that was a snapped halfshaft followed by a fwh blowing up hence no drive!
Tdi conversion downpipe cheap enough on ebay
Mate has done a couple of v8 ones and hes always tweaking and generally messing around, another bloke at work always seems to be doing the same on his v8.
Then of course theres the diabolical fuel consumption, on the other hand they do sound like sex on legs, dont half shift as well, something you cant say about the tdi:D

Thanks Lynall, I've read a couple blogs on conversions and a couple of threads on here, am I right in thinking a 200tdi drops straight in, no alterations to bulkhead or engine mounts?

The reason I ask which is the easiest is that I want to do it myself, I can spanner most things ok and can even weld a bit, but I'd like to keep the welding to a minimum as I'm crap :D

V8's do sound nice though, but I'm not much of a tinkerer I'd rather just drive it.

if you fit whatever engine like lr did then conversions pretty easy and all standard bolt on parts and only eng mounts to weld on ,but requires more work and parts
