Simple designs are usually the most effective builds, I built a gas forge this sort of shape a few years back, the circular shaped directed the heat round brilliantly got the heat through the steel very quick

Very true, the heat it put out was surprising, all put in it was a few sticks My dad is also making an oil burner out of a 47kg gas bottle, me doing this has egged him on to finish it I think

I have but only once properly, took rather a lot of folding and an awful lot of cursing!
I'd have liked to have done more weaponry but I never really had the spare time between jobs, I was the only blacksmith having to keep 5 fabricators in work. But eventually ill build myself a forge and tinker for my own benefit one day.......

There was a fella down Devon somewhere who does armoury he does it for the film industry but worked initially for Windsor castle in their armoury. It's a whole different ball game to the sort of work I did, much more highly skilled. I'd have liked to have got more into vintage car bodywork but don't really fancy the apprentice wage anymore

Yeah there is a traditional armourer in cardiff but it was 1800 for the plate armour, that's not including the leather and chain to go underneath.

finished off the stack pipe exhaust on the old landy what a ball ache of a job , too dark to take a picy of it when i'd finished . just a bit of a blowing on the joint nothing a bit of paste on around the flange wont cure it .

Changed wheel bearings on rear axle. thought axles was Fooked (well it is but not in the way I thought it was.) got 1/2" of end float in the halfshafts. turns out because the bearings were fooked the hub has been moving in and out, and has worn a lip in the drive flanges so halfshafts are moving out further than they should. Anyone got a pair of drive flanges???

Also discovered pads were rapidly approaching metal backing pads, so bought new pads and as pistons are corroded to fook. Enlisted the assistance of beasty to give me an hand unseize em, and clean em up.

I haven't time to work on my Defender too busy building a trailer. I do have to empty the bits out from last weekends camping at the HUBB event

Replaced the windscreen washer jet as the previous owner had put a too smaller nut on the thread and it was just wobbling away on the bulkhead!

MOT test, breezed through

Resealed wiring grommet in bulkhead dried carpet refitted interior and just finished the wax oiling the underneath

Rubbed the body sliders down ive been given ready to go for powder coating

Fitted new locks all round and in the process knackered the tailgate latch :doh:

Changed the fuel filter myself for the first time. I know it's not a big deal but was good to see the amount of crap that was in it from using bio. What can only be described as white chunks that looked like fat, not loads but it was an eye opener.

need to replace my snorkle, its fook. can you replace the mushroom with an air ram? been having a look and there seems to be 3" and 3.5" air rams? :/
