Ordered a head gasket set for the v8 today.
Last time I did a head gasket was on the vw Borat and that cost nearly £80 from the main stealers.

This one an extortion at £18.00! :)

managed an hour after work that gave me a chance to start reassembling the hubs..... all cleaned n painted and as with all the other areas i retapped to clean all the threads and reassembled using 12.9 grade BZP socket caps M6x16 and M10 x 30, ..... looks far better imho and a higher spec than landrovers build....

new seals, bearings and gaskets and i know its sad but couldnt resist painting the retainer to match the blocks and radius arms etc lol

Changed drivers side headlamp bulb found an old 80/100 Watt bulb

not today but this week I've fitted the most important mod a fender owner (or any landy owner really) can have on their motor.

Gave it a session with the pressure washer, a lot of crud everywhere but thr mud has dried at last :):)
Then I parked it up to dry off in the wind,

Later I took it for a good blast down the bypass, pulled it into the shed and drained all the 90 weight oil from the diffs, transfer box and swivels, and the MTF from the gearbox. All draining overnight ready for refill in the morning.

I took may LRD for the MOT today, I did a s much prep as I knew how to and it failed on three ball joints. The two on the Tube Track Rod (the back long one) and the one on the Tube Cross Rod/Drop Arm.

Managed to source and replace them, my planned trip to Wales will go ahead, yippee!

At least I know how to check and replace them now.

used to change all 3 every 2 years as expendable items.... u can get em for under a tenner.... if u spend a little more u can now get greasable ones... thats what i will be doing soon.... however only an good if u grease em lol and judging by the number of prop uj posts not many people seem to own a grease gun lol

cheers steve

It's another job to add to my regular inspection/replacement program now I know how to check them. I have only owned an LRD for two years and I'm still learning how to look after it!

UJ's I am familiar with and yes a grease-gun and its use is essential!

Keep looking underneath her at the new leaks that have sprung, rear diff n front left wheel, and wishing I had some decent tools n somewhere to work on it properly, oh n a bit of guidance lol

Fitted new 35-10.5-16 simex tyres and wheels, adjusted the front winch bumper to take the wheels, fitted a roof rack, and spare on the rack, fitted a rear ladder, welded the rear bumper tow points on, refitted the front seat mount which broke, oh and fitted a new CD player. Not bad before 9.30 :)
