Re-uj'd my rear propshaft and fitted a new rear diff.

Why I chose to do it today freezing my arse off and covered in snow I have no idea!

Hehe like mine?

Top idea, I see that happening tomorrow :D

Did some slides today...not on purpose, our ungritted roads are like ice rinks, turned into the horse yard this afternoon but kept going straight, just stopped inches from concrete bollards. All good fun :D

Took this icy pic on my fone tonight ImageUploadedByTapatalk1358709596.176984.jpg

Could it be vapor lock? Not had experience but read about it before a while ago and symptoms sound like yours. Engine cutting out and not starting when hot/warm? Think it's cheaper to fix might just be a new thermostat.
May be able to just take this out for a test and see if it starts and stays alive?

Now that's an interesting idea. I hadn't thought of it, and no one's mentioned this with TD5s before. It's not quite so straightforward to try it out on a TD5 as the thermostat is a plastic thing that the coolant pipes fit onto. However, I shall put one on my shopping list as it could be useful to have a spare anyway.

Had a play with it today and discovered I could adjust the engine speed by wobbling the terminals on the fuel pump relay under the driver's seat (before the engine died again). So I think I'll be buying another one of those too.

Stripped the front seats out started taking the dash out, got the air con blower out, then tried taking the heater box out.

Why is it always the most awkward bolts that shear the rivets and play up :banghead:

Finally persuaded the passenger door to co-operate with my increasingly vigorous efforts to get it open.
Unrolled the rad muff only to realise that the spotlight stays prevent it from being of any use whatsoever

Has my rear Diff gone?
Driving along a dirt track this afternoon on my back from a 80 mile round trip and suddenley withoout any warning I lost all drive. I loud grating noise was coming from what appeared to be the rear diff. No drive what so ever I tried to make sure that it had not slipped out of gear both from the gear box and from the transfer box. I tried it in diff lock and managed to get the drive back again to get me home. Once home I checked again in normal drive but still just a grating sound as if the cogs were grating but not catching. Still works when diff lock is engaged.
Any suggestions guys?

Yea its sun or crown gear.. I broke a sun gear and had a crunching grindy sound

I've fitted a new battery but it still won't start. Start clicks when key is turned and I have pushed it forwards in gear in case the started was/is jammed.
Anyone got any ideas please?

As long as its a good battery starter Solinoid its part of the starter motor or the relay that feeds it or a bad connection
