Removed front brakes [ callipers and discs] - replaced discs, cleaned and painted callipers, put an overhaul kit in each, reassembled - new 'green' pads, bleed front brakes.

could you tell me what "an overhaul kit in each" is please and where to get it from. also the cost please.

Tried to fit my new exhaust on the roadside. Couldn't get the right angle to get it over the subframe and run out of things to put ontop of my jack so refitted the old one. Freelader was getting a little wobbly as it was without going any higher so I will have to put up with the noisey exhaust for a little longer untill I can get it on a ramp

My interpretation is....''brake overhaul kits'' are basically renewable parts that make up the completed front or rear brake 'set',in addition to pads or drums/discs. Parts such as brake cylinders and springs (that wear out over time).

You can get them on Ebay or other vendors as part of a kit, or just buy them seperately on their own if you know the part numbers.

Caliper overhaul kits available from Rimmers and others.
Not expensive [p't number SEE100200P] about nine pounds + VAT.
The ones I got consisted of: guide pin rubber bellows gaiters, calliper bore seal and the rubber bellows dust seal/cover for the piston. Those dust covers are tricky to fit!

You will need a sachet of high temp brake grease for the guide pins which wasn't part of this kit. P't number SEE100200 [land rover] does have it but they are over twice the price!

These P't numbers are for an early FL1 - mine is a 1998 model.

You must be scrupulousy clean and dust free!

I took the opportunity to clean and paint the callipers with calliper paint - the paint I used needed to be cured by heat - I 'baked' them for an hour at about 80ºC. Then I fitted the O/H kits. I fitted EBC Green pads and replaced my worn disc with Brit part discs.

Fitted strengthened bottom rail, oil pick-up and sump to motor. Refitted IRD support bracket [those bolts are a pig to get at aren't they?]and the lower engine tie bar assembly. Primed and refitted the oil pump. Carefully removed the Cat converter and fitted a decat pipe.

jack the car up as high as you can and then get a sissor jack or other jack and jack up the NSR this will allow you a little extra space to get the middle pipe in place

i have done this twice now

(Insert expletive here)

Anyone need any Freelander bits before I jump up and down on it, smash it to bits with an axe and burn it?

Tensioner pulley bolt came loose. YES it was torqued up, I got very pedantic with the bolts when I fitted this cam belt and triple checked everything so I couldn't doubt myself. Time for a new engine....or a new car

I feel your pain.
I'm sure you will get it back on the road. It might only need a head rebuild? We'll keep our fingers crossed for you!!

I got a little worried that the V6 might not get me to work this morning. It stalled, dropped out and lost power several times on my 10 mile commute.

When it got me home, I tested the current drawn by the fuel pump while the engine was running. It held solid at 6.10 Amps. Tomorrow evening the pump comes out for a check over and a new filter.
