What have you done to your Freelander today

Fitted the Grayston GE15 spring assister's to the two rear springs. Really easy to fit, didn't have to remove the rear wheels either. Took about 20 minutes total to do.

Boiled the assister's in water for about ten minutes, cleaned the spring with WD40 then used washing up liquid on the assister's to help them on.
 
Please let us know how you get on with the spring assisters:)

Took it for a run and noticed a difference on the bends, the car seemed to hug the road better and didn't get that feeling of leaning over. So in my opinion well worth the money. Will get a better idea when I tow the caravan as it used to bounce a little bit.
 
Had a bit of a look at it and then drove up the shops and back. Wifey away for a couple of days and house slowly turning into a tip - but that's another story. My latest dilemma is whether to px out the FL or spend some money on it and go fer top dollar private sale. It is in very good overall condition.
Needs;
Clutch
Crank shaft seal
Cam belt is due
Rear tyres aren't great
HDC intermittent
Air Con not worked for a while (and tbh not fixin this)
Rear passenger side widow seal

That's about it, so £500 maybe touch more. Been offered £950.00 recently in px. Its a close run thing and what if I spend out on it and then decide likes it wants to keep it. Wifey will go up the wall as she wants it shot of:doh:
 
I would only sell it privately if I have the work done on it, I'm old fashioned that way. But px to a dealer moves the responsibility on to him - don't you agree?
 
Received a new set of tyres for the L series.

Went for 235/55/17 Pirelli Scorpions after some soul searching. Just need to get them fitted and the tracking done and all should be good.

Do like that L-Series. Might have to pitch it off the wife a bit more.
 
Here is a link to VOSA test notes for MOT testers. It also states lock to lock steering test MUST be performed with the "suspension in the normal road position, unless its a beam axle". That says to me it's not tested at full suspension travel.

That's checking steering components for play. It's done wheel free checking suspension brake flexi lines etc. that's when it's likely to be picked up as an unsafe modification!

It doesn't say that in the test guide.

How can the lift be classed as "unsafe mod", or are you on about the cutting of the inner wings?

Catching! You can't steer the thing if you can't turn the wheel! If you drive off a big kerb suddenly your steering locks up and you have an accident you'll get shafted! Unsafe mods are down to the tester to decide. When you test you have it wheel free waist high and check in the arch for issues. Cracked brake pipes split cv boot wheel bearing rumble you go lock to lock and spin the wheel to check the brake pipes don't move and rub on something. Hold on, I can't go lock to lock that's not right! Oh look someone's modified it and I consider it to be dangerous!
Reason for rejection. Inappropriate modification to steering and suspension components!

That's how it works. I used to do it!

The lock to lock test is done with the weight on the suspension, if you done it with suspension at full travel, then you done it wrong! The VOSA inspection standards state that mate.

I'm not getting into an argument about it, I will speak to the local tester and see how they interpret the inspection standards.

With the vehicle over a pit or on a raised hoist, check the vehicle structure for any fracture, damage or corrosion, not within the prescribed areas, which is likely to affect prejudicially the correct functioning of the braking system or the steering gear.Note: The prescribed areas are those specifically detailed in sections 2, 3 and 5 of the manual.

1. Any deliberate modification, excessive corrosion, damage, fracture or inadequate repair not within a prescribed area which adversely affects braking or steering by severely reducing the strength or continuity of a main load bearing structural member.

You aren't reading it right! The sections cross over you're only reading the steering one!! It's a fail!!

I have read it, the "prescribed area" is any chassis structure within 30cm of the steering. I haven't modified any "prescribed area" as I haven't modified any chassis rails.

Here's a question for you, how has every other owner that has modified there suspension managed to get a pass??
 
Section 1 clearly states it doesn't have to be within a prescribed area! And you don't know what a prescribed area is! 30cm from any suspension mount. Steering mount. Seat mount. Seatbelt mount. Pedal mount. Handbrake mount. Etc that covers a huge area of the vehicle!
At the end of the day I'm saying do something safely, you're reading a book that is huge and you don't know the ins and outs of it and telling me I'm wrong?! Ask the guy that is locked up because he killed four of his kids because of dangerous modifications what he thinks! It's what the mots for. Sure not everything gets picked up, but if it does and it's considered dangerous its a fail! As a tester I'd consider it dangerous! That's why I did mine properly!
