Tried to remove the passenger airbag unit because there is a terrible rattle coming from that area

Failed !!

Looked in RAVE - couldnt find how to remove it .... Anybody got any ideas ??

Hi. I recently had to put new airbags in owing to a crash. You need to remove the long plastic trim that is just above the glove box door and just below the airbag and then you will see the fixing for keeping the trim on. Remove that then you will see three star shaped bolt heads *. I did not have the right fitting tool but used instead a normal socket set bit. Keep trying one till it fits snugly.
The back end of the airbag is fixed in be two locating plugs. Once out there is a metal plate underneath it. Not much else really. Try looking at a dash fixing screw located just below the glove box and next to the door. I found mine was missing. May have worked its way loose. Hope this helps. Marty

Thanks Marty

last time I had a go i found 2 star shaped bolts - removed them and it was oving a bit but not to enough to remove

RAVE says (found the section) there should be 4 !!!

Maybe thats why mine rattles :)

will have another look when i find some time

more to come

Well I can't remember if it was three or four. But one or two of them are right at the back and you need a socket extention. I did mine in June so a while back now.

over the last couple of days iv changed most of the bulbs for LEDs and upgraded the headlights to 100/90w
but today i had new front pads fitted and both calipers had a minor overhaul but...
i had a new reverse light switch fitted and within a couple of hours it stopped working again aghhhhhhhhhhhh!

Why do this, what are benefits please?:)

LEDs use virtually no power, are usually brighter and last longer! No good as headlamp bulbs tho cos they don't work with the reflectors properly! Careful with more powerful headlamp bulbs cos they generate more heat and if you're unlucky can melt the lense:(
Brakes cos they work better:)
Reverse light switch just to **** you off?
Well that's my theory:D

Ha ha, meant just the LEDs. Can see the sense of brighter brake lights and headlights but melting lenses, sounds like another "leave well alone sitch" for DD3.

Xenon filled osram night breakers make a huge difference and are the same power!

i have heard the "melting lens" tails but never seen the damage for my self...i know a couple of guys who fitted them with no visible signs of melt down...but i stand to be corrected...if i see any flaws in the lens, i will remove them, they were only a 5a.
but at the moment they are really good on country roads;)

I've used em in the past mainly with glass lenses and yes they do make a huge difference, the melting I have seen it a couple of times and you do have to be a bit unlucky, it seems to be more if you leave em on main beam when you're stationary for a while cos the lamp isn't cooled by the wind as much, most of us don't do that so it isn't that likely to happen to be fair its just something to be aware of:)
