What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

And more bad bits, though to be fair I have seen a whole lot worse. All the holes in the rear door are due to various wheel carriers, the latest being my Mantec carrier which has a big plate that covers the lot.

First coat of the base colour.

Will be satin finish when it dries fully.

Time to have a play with some colour.


I have not even bothered to do anything about the various - some might say severe - dents in the doors and wings.
They all have a place in history, "Honourable battle scars" as far as I'm concerned" "Bloody hideous" was the comment from the doris.

Washed the roof of the 90 in preparation for the roof rack.

frog hopper, I like the battle scars...they're very characterful. did you spray or roller the paint/enamel?

Battle scars also make it less desirable to be stolen in my view

I'm very excited, the diesel eagle has landed. Sometimes, life's a funny thing. One buys a Landy, the engine borks itself. The engine's ushered off to a highly reputable engineering house. It costs a bloody fortune...and then this arrives at home 30mins ago...everything brand new, new gaskets + bits and the cost is already forgotten. Turner's service has been impeccable, first rate communications, superb turn round...and even uses/sent with engine Millers running in oil. Happy days

thanks pappasmurf. yes, the cost has involved lots of man maths. I really had to justify to myself when, really, she's just an old...albeit fun and smart...Land Rover. In the end there were three deciding factors 1. I'd sleep well at night knowing Lucy has a pukka new engine, 2. due to 9-5/home life I simply did not have time to strip and rebuild myself, and 3. it's more cost effective for me to be working/earning income rather than building more engines that I don't have time to build. [this engine is the first engine I've had built buy others rather than me doing the spannering]. Hopefully your engine will continue for many a good year

Will do, zeaphod. Will make a resto project file to show progress and hopefully help others in the future. Especially where all the nuts 'n' bolts go...though there are some superb rebuild files on the LZ forums and YouTube has some brilliant rebuild contributors...

Got a noise/wobble front end.
Checked/grease prop
Changed 3 out of 4 ball joints(1 tomorrow)
Change steering tube to a HD version(only Been in the shed for 8years)
Topped up CV (other side tomorrow)
Topped up diff
Found my spare tyre is flat(going back to the shop & free repair)

No wheel bearing noise
No play in swivels

Will look at the rear tomorrow.

Ok so I did a thing today! Well a few.

I fitted carpet to the middle row, no big deal, but I filmed it, and it’s something I have never tried to do, talk on camera!

Even worse to post it online? Taking a pill of bravery, first video with me chatting.

Maybe it’s useless, but if one person finds it useful, makes them go buy carpet on eBay, and fit it, then I’ll be happy!

Please laugh, take the ****, I deserve it. Yep I know, it’s gash, sound is crap, music is weird, but have to start somewhere!

Also installed a stage 2 map from Alive, it’s amazing!

Thanks for posting it, talking to a camera is not the easiest thing (and not something I would be any good at!!) so all kudos to you

I used a roller. What actually happened was that I blocked in the main shape, the doris followed on with a brush to cut in the edges and I went back over to level it all out.
Not too bad a finish, it is a defender after all, and no doubt we will be picking up plenty of scratches green laning in the future. Funny I should say that, I am meeting half a dozen mates on Friday to finalize details of an off road marathon through Portugal in November.

Polished the roof ready for the new roof rack being collected this week!

Now starting day 4 of wiring. Alarm, immobilisers, heated electric seats, lights, heated windscreen. Oh and the most important thing, the radio.

Continued from yesterday.
1 track rod end
Grease front prop shaft
Top up cv grease
Re grease & check front wheel bearings
Tighten up drop arm on to steering box
I have no play
Check gear/transfer box oils.
But vibration still there.
It’s the rear prop UJ now I’ve found it

Problem I have is I cannot find my spare uj or prop for a fast resolve.
Trip to the shop tomorrow

Cleaned the MAP sensor (01 td5 defender)after reading this post yesterday.

Truck was studdering/jumping like kangaroo diesel when driving high revs mainly 4th gear on motorway or up steep hill. Thought it was injector harness which was replaced...didn't fix the issue. Just took it for a run and it seems to be fixed. If not I think I better source a voltmeter and check MAF.

Any thoughts from the experts?

A rather more relaxed day today than planned.
Started to replace the lights, 1st job refit the battery, and I thought it would be good to see if she at least starts before I go any further. Started fine but with a bit of a rubbing noise so switched off, lifted the bonnet to see that I had forgotten to clear the lighting looms away from the engine PRAT.
Fortunately no damage, phew.
Anyway got myself in a right old state trying to decode the mass of wires that I should have marked up on disconnecting, thought I would remember what went where, obviously fecking NOT. Ended up by putting the tools away and reassembling an old genny to use over the weekend as we are off glamping in the camper car with the local landy club. So that's it for the best part of a week, time to have a little holiday.
