Thanks I know what you mean in your other post, I need to Calm down and Slow Down, might save myself some money and get the job done properly.
I was just trying to prepare you for future frustrations! Unless you are EXTREMELY lucky, all sorts of things will go wrong. Just remember it's not you, it happens to the best of us. I found it helped to go and make a mug of tea when something went wrong, the 5 minute break helped see things in a different light. I had a canny few mugs of tea :)

I know that's what I should have done, if I had of waited for advice I could have saved both of them. Think I've learned a lesson there.:)
 
Well here I go again, fitted new stub axle but the hub will not slide on, it’s not the stub as I’ve tried it on an old one, it just won’t budge when putting it in to position. The other side Slid straight on no problem and everything is excactly the same, what am I doing wrong this time???

Can sometimes be a bit fiddly to get the bearings aligned with the stub so they slide on. If the inner bearing inner race isn't going on to the stub after repeated attempts I'd be tempted to whip the outboard inner bearing race out of the hub to see if it slides on the shaft nicely, that should prove whether the stub is distorted. If that goes on fine but the inboard one doesn't then you may have to repeat the exercise with the inboard one to confirm it will fit. Unfortunately that will mean having to remove/damage the inner grease seal.

Tried sliding bearing on its own but same thing.

Tried the other bearing on to see if that is the same? Looked for slight burrs on the end of the stub (could always try some fine wet & dry on the edge)? Are bearings Timken or other reputable make?

Will try the wet & dry tomorrow, Funny thing is the Very first time I tried it slid straight on, don't know why but I slipped it straight back off to the end then tried pushing it back up then that's when it starting sticking, I have all the old bearings that I took off and none of them will slide up anymore. Doing my head in now, :mad:

That'll be some form of burr on the stub, either that or the bearing was warm at the time (slightly expanded). At least you know they can go on, just a matter of fettling it
 
Yes, the machining marks on the stub axle and those on the inside of the bearing catch sometimes and can make it very hard to shift them. Assuming neither the bearing nor the stub axle are seriously out of tolerance a little tickle with fine abrasive and a little lubrication may help. From what you say it goes on sometimes and not others, so it's almost there. Just needs a bit of help.
 
Is wet and dry the best option here or is there anything else I could try ?? if something is there it should only be right on the end of the stub.

Now for the BUT,
I have made the Biggest Cockup Yet, I am Genuinely to Embarrassed to say what Ive done, couldn't stand anyone laughing although I suppose it is funny really. Needless to say the Fu!!!ng whole lot has to come apart again.

Let me guess, swivel seal retainer plate, either forgot to put it on or put it on the wrong way round so the holes don't align?:eek:
