Hi Have had lots of support on here when my landy was stolen, been recovered after 8 months doesnt look anything like my Landy but the police say it is mine.- still waiting for insurance to tell me if I can get my Landy back BUT if I do what do you have to do? I phoned the DVLA explained that the vehicle has no ID numbers anywhere (according to the police) VIN plates gone other numbers ground off. To be honest DVLA were not very helpful - it may or may not be given its original ID/ reg number OR it could be given new numbers and be put on a Q reg. AND how do you get these things done? I phoned my local Land rover dealer and whilst they said they can order VIN plates they didn't know where to get the vehicle re stamped ? I suspect someone has been in this situation - Any thoughts?

Keep all the relevent documents from the police and insurance companies. If you get stopped by the police in the future it could cause problems. Have a word with the police and see if you can speak to someone from the stolen vehicle squad. They should be able to 'acid etch' to bring your original chassis number up (assuming that the original has been ground out rather than chopped out and re-welded). They may then be happy to give you a piece of headed paper verifying that your landy is legitimate. You can then take this to your local DVLA office as prrof that the vehicle is one and the same and therefore justify it keeping the original reg and vin numbers.

You can then get your chassis re-stamped. As it will be getting done by hand the chances are that it will not end up straight or equally spaced. The letter you obtained from the SVS will then be invaluable to prove your vehicle is actually wht it's meant to be. It would be best not to stamp your chassis number where it was previously. (If your vehicle was ever seized again by the police they could still get the original chassis number up if needed).

Hi, thanks for the info, Still waiting for insurace to decide how much the landy is worth (looking at it today) I was only able to look at the vehicle at the authorised storage yard so I couldnt talk to anyone about the checks they did. I phoned West midland vehicle recovery scheme, they said the police have done the acid etch to ID the Landy - thats how they traced it to me. Will have to follow it up though to get paperwork etc if I am able to get Landy back.
Where do take the vehicle to get the numbers stamped onto the chassis ? The local Lanrover garage say they dont do it.
