the guy with no prop asked me how I knewso much about vcu and props...cause been on internet 27000000 times..obviously he aint seen them..lol

Bought myself another Freelander about a month ago. It's got its props / VCU in place, although the VCU feels tight to me. Looks like I'm going to give a DIY referb a go. I'm not fantastic at welding, so I'm going to try a different method of get the old fluid or and the new fluid in.
 
when i bought mine i replaced the ird as it had a rumble then went out and bought a new vcu never botherd fitting it as ours is just a town car its lying in my shed.alot of people remove vcu as a precaution car drives well without it so no prop doesnt always mean screwed ird a good test drive will tell if you have problems.

Just got back from a few days away and really want to reply to this ****, but I'm hungry. So I'll get a curry then tell the **** what a fecking **** he really is!

Thankfully, I'm a rich as this **** - and I shalln't skimp on my curry - I'll spend $17 for a very good curry - not like those who can't afford a $17 curry and pay $12 and accept it ain't quite a $17 curry.

I once brought a curry for £5 and some chicken. I had to rebuild the curry st home in my kitchen.

Now because I don't read about freelancers normally, why do you need to weld them when changing some oil in some part of the drivetrain?

You have completely ignored what he has said. He has paid £20 for a set of props with a VCU housing in the middle. His has drained the fluid in the VCU housing and replaced it with new - which is basically what a reconditioner does. Whether he did this because he wanted a challenge or to save money I do not know and should be completely irrelevant to everyone except an abosolute **** arsehole. Personally - good on him - he's got off his arse and done something much more creative that posting obnoxious comments about all and everyone.

See that's where you go wrong. You sir, like everybody (except the OP and me) are idiots. You should listen to the OP. Only professionals should rebuild things, it is not to be attempted at home. As you did rebuild your curry, you really deserve a good dose of the trots.

Sealed units, getting fluid out, getting fluid in, keeping fluid in.

Think you've just discribed me there mate. I have the knocking, and no prop So what does it mean exactly? I no nothing of these vehicles, I merely wanted a van for work. It's a 2000 Freelander Commercial 2.0L diesel.

Props can be removed to reportedly save fuel but more normally they are removed because there is a problem.

Usually because the VCU has stiffened up putting at lot of strain on the rear diff and IRD.

It's not easy to know whether it was removed to prevent damage or whether damage has already happened.

The knocking may be the bearings either side of the VCU which are fairly simple to replace I believe but others will be able to advise you better.

They should be some sticky threads at the top of this section which will explain better

As for the curry thing, I shall stick with the friendly Indian in future, far less likely to get the trots :D

grumpy...go...f....self sick off gobbing off at every chance ya get...for sake off 250 quid idiots like you,,,do there own...risk wrecking the ird, seen the post where ground of the casing drilled holes..welded it up..well that's balanced then...if ya cant afford 250 quid ..buy a corsa...lol..no wonder so many freelanders get scrapped..cheapskates buy them ..cant afford to run them...lol

They get scrapped because people don't do anything about the VCU.

Whether you choose to refurbish yourself or pay for one from someone else makes no difference.
