Hi,

I'm a big fan of the old green oval and currently own a Disco1 300 tdi Auto.

I'm looking for a second car for my work location (disco lives at home) for occasional use and to modify for a wee bit of pay and play offroading.
I've seen numerous links regarding the 2" lift and I've found a suitable roof rack configuration that would meet my occasional heavy carrying needs.

I don't have a huge budget so was considering the V6 (MPG not really as issue as I'll only be doing about 5-7k per year.
I've read that the V6 Auto has the oomph and the auto box goes a good way to make up for no locking diff. (hippo has been a good inspiration).

Do any of you have any advice on what to look for otherwise I'll end up with another disco that can't fit into any car parks :)

Cheers

Most Freelanders a suitable for occasional use. Usually in between repairs. :pound:

Diesels are more popular on ere due to them being more reliable than petrols on average. But that don’t mean to say petrol’s should be ignored completely. Some like them and if your handy with spanners then they can be good value to own. Personally I’d go for a diesel if it were me. The betterer economy of the diesel will pay back the difference in price of the extra £ paid to get a diesel, over a petrol, in a small number of years.

Roof rack limit is 75kg. you could aways fold the rear seats forward to increase boot space.

Thank you, I've given myself about 8 weeks worth of research time then we'll make a choice.
I sort of miss my 4.0 v6 Ford Explorer that's why I was looking at the V6 Freelander.
I pay and play and do a lot of field work in my Disco, was going to keep the freelander in London so mostly road use with a wee bit of load lugging for camping etc but nothing too serious, wanted the lift to take it to pay and play pits to get a bit muddy.
I'm ok with the old spanners and have a very handy mechanic who loves freelanders in Lewisham so should be ok there.
Guess I'l tired of rustproofing the disco and don;t want the expense of range rover.
