Looking at the V5 on my newly aquired 1998 freelander 1.8.

Under model it states LR 90 4CYL SW

which translates to me as Landrover 90 4 Cylinder Station Wagon

Does this sound right??

The engine CC is also displayed as 1795cc which must be a typo as the 1.8 is a 1796cc.

Any ideas before I query this with the DVLA.

Cheers

Steve.

Hi mate, check the VIN number is the same on the vehicle as the V5, sounds a bit dodgy to me, they don't usually make mistakes that big. You could take it back to where you bought it and query it there also. Good luck, I hope you haven't been conned.

that doe seem right as mine says landrover freelander swb 1796cc,2040kg gross(mine is a commercial)type approval 017j101t,co2 0.810

OOH i dunno Jerry - I have a 1971 2.6 V6 Ford Taunus - the log book still says it is a 2.0l Ford Taurus even after writing to them about 1/2 a dozen times - they keep sending the new log book back with a slip saying they acknowledge my comments and have ammended accordingly - Ford's VIN decoder has it down as a van as well :( . The only time DVLA are on the ball is when it comes to getting money out of ya!!

That said, I would certainly be looking at the VIN plates to ensure that there nothing is more sinister about it. If it does turn out to be a problem, you may want to first consider getting in touch with whoever you bought it from - I bought a Honda Civic a few years back that turned out to have been 'ringed' - I went straight to the police and I got a visit from the Stolen Vehicle Squad, within 24 hours the car was taken away and I never saw it again - no compo, no nothing - the police advice was almost insinuating that it was my fault for not checking everything properly when i bought it. Fortunately I managed to get my money back from the guy I bought it from but lets just say that my method of extraction would have probably been deemed as legal as the car was;) (not proud - but needs must!)

Hope it turns out all OK for ya

well mine says

freelander m mara td4 s/w

which is right, thankfully:D

hope it's just a mistake mate and not a pikey special;)

Thanks peops

I bought it off a guy at work. The VIN and engine check out ok and I have the original service book with selling dealer stamp etc.

If it does turn out to dodgy (90% sure it will be ok) then i will break and should recover my £550 outlay.

Don't worry, a batch of 1998 Freelanders, including the Camel Trophy ones, were registered like that.

I never did anything about mine as I thought it was quite quirky. Now the MoT has been computerised, you need to change it as the MoT Tester should fail it if it doesn't match.

You simply send the V5 to the DVLA having underlined the incorrect description and write in the correct description. Mine was changed on their system within days, although I still haven't recieved my replacement V5 yet.

I can't see how 1 cubic centimer would cause problems. The description would worry me. Saying that, the colour on my V5 was questionable. Said Silver, it was more a champagne colour.
As long as the engine and chassis numbers match I'd be happy......I think ;)
