Thats your Hill Descent Control warning light. Does it stay on all the time when driving or does it flash on now and then?

It has come on twice over last couple of weeks.when it appears just stays on until stop and restart the engine.

Probably a chafed wire at bottom of gearstick

Lift the gaiter up from the bottom and check the wiring and the connectors. Make sure there is no chafed wirers like wot freelance said and make sure the connectors are not loose.

Thanks guys.
Had a look. Nothing obvious so have added some insulation tape between the wires and separated then.
Will see if it comes back.

Well separating and taping the wires hasn't worked...……
where do they go form inside the car? any ideas?

Probably something very simple / minor. Have you had any work done recently on the wheel hubs? Could be an ABS sensor is just a wee smidgen to far out from where it should be [or was].

Nothing been done to the wheel hubs since I have owned it.
Is total random when it happens. stays of on restart.

Need to get codes read and live data monitored otherwise it’s pure guess work

OK this seems to be getting worse. Now I have the TC warning light and hill decent.
Both are came on, went out then cam back on and are staying on even after restarting.
The brake lights are working, the car is driving fine so ruled out the peddle switch.
The hand brake light is working OK as well.
I plugged my code reader in and its not showing any faults (is a very basic one).
The hill decent seems to be on inclines under braking and this is when the TC cam on as well.
Any ideas suggestions...….. get another Freelander...….. garage!

Could be one or more ABS sensor are failing. I had this problem I confirmed it with a decent code reader. Take it to a garge that can read the codes

Not so - on mine i had similar symptoms but the peddle switch cured it - when I took the old one to pieces just one of the contacts was worn aand burned
Brake lights had been working fine - there's more than that going on in that switch

I've been having the same issue, I find if I stamp on the brake a bit harder than necessary, the lights go out. I'm ignoring it until such time that it stays on regardless.

Not necessarily. The brake light switch is a double contract change over switch. One set of contacts make when the pedal is pressed, this is for the brake lights and ABS ECU monitoring. The other contacts break when the pedal is pressed. This is monitored by the ABS ECU as a double check, so as to confirm the brakes have been applied. If either contact doesn't make or break when it should, the ABS ECU will put a malfunction light.
