I just thought I would start this as a more positive thread!!.I have a 2001 TD4 and I love mine due to,it's good on fuel,it's comfy and fun to drive,I can fit two peoples fishing gear in with ease and above all will go just about anywhere with the right tyres on.

So come on folks, what do you love about your Freelanders and why?

I've got a 2000 XEDI I love it it's comfy good on fuel, reliable I get my my grand kids and there quad in the back and in havnt got stuck in snow ice mud grass or anywhere wouldn't swap her for anything

i love that my engine hasn't exploded... because so far that's the only thing that hasn't gone wrong with it...

Love mine too, 1999 L diesel engine stationwagon. Great fuel economy and actually it doesn't feel too slow - lots of low end torque. I probably like it more because it needs some pampering and I can buy tools to fix things. Only had it since January but am very pleased - comfy, excellent road holding and solid. I actually got it for my wife but I seem to drive it more than her. My other car is an old 2+2 toyota celica from 1991 which is great but the height of the driving postion in both cars is not easy to adjust to side by side!

Yeah and they get so uptight if you call them disco queens or rearenders , all landrovers have their faults don't see the point in taking the preverbial out of each other should be here to help and be glad we all got Landys

I agree,if Freelanders are that crap, then why did Landrover build it and put their name on it in the first place!!.:p

Love my 2006 TD4 because I live on top of a mountain in South Wales, and since owning it from new I have never been stuck on the bottom of the mountain when it snows. It's great on fuel, cumfy, fun to drive and pulls my caravan with ease. Would I have another one YES.

I love the way that it keeps my bank account empty, cos hey, who needs money anyways.

I love the way that it teaches me how to use spanners, cos said back account is already empty.

I love the way that the door fall off everytime it gets wet.

This is suppose to be a positive thread!!!!:D

I agree fish lander let those of us who love our hippos enjoy them , those who don't can take their derogatory comments to the other threads where I'm sure they will be a damn site more welcome than here

hiya, my 2002 TD4 has just clicked onto 177,00 miles, had it for 3 years, use to own a series 3 and cant get over the difference, due to a spinal injury with pins plates etc had to find a vehicle that was easy to get in and out of, reliable, comfortable , easy to drive and an automatic,

have loved it, never got stuck in the snow, a real joy to own and all it ask for is a service every year .

if ive ever seen a land rover broken down regardless of make have always stopped and helped where i could, its all about the land rover badge and not the model.as one day i may need help

what goes around comes around, well in theory anyway, lol

just hope land rover continue to go from strength to strength and dont ruin it

gary

Had my 2006 td4 adventurer for 3.5 yrs...the longest I've ever owned a car. Can't see the sense in getting rid, as nothing other than service items go wrong. Pulls the Caravan with ease, MPG good, and I can't see anything else to really fit the bill. With the price of Diesel, will need to get a vehicle with improved MPG, and perform as the Landy does. The only one I might be tempted to is the new 1.6 Qashqai Diesel.....but not yet!

forgive me for I have sinned, having improper thoughts.

I have a td4 commercial auto, with 110k on the clock, which I use every day for work, ranging from a 5 mile local trip, through to a 250 mile daily commute depending on circumstances, which I have owned for six years. In those six years, I have taken it from 36k to 110k.

It has only let me down once with a failed injector about 5 years ago.

I have been considering (seriously have) changing it for a mercedes vito van to give me more space and better fuel economy.

BUT

Yesterday I was stuck for an hour on the north of the M25 with my foot on the brake the whole time, just edging forward. The air con was on, I was listening to some nice music, and even though I was stuck in traffic, I felt calm and relaxed.

It is comfy, does everything I want it to do (just wish it a little bigger and more fuel efficient, perhaps if I kept less stuff or organised it better), so it stays. Washed it the weekend, and it's still shiny (not too many greenlane scratches), it kept on all through the snow (so I kept earning).

I am glad I wavered, I'd got as far as getting a price for the vito, was just working out VAT and stuff with a trade in.

I wrote this on another fred:
I loves ma hippo I does. He makes me happy. Been driving it for 8 years. Many happy motoring miles covered with some great days out oft roading. I didn’t choose it. Mine was inherited. Ever since that fateful day I int stopped forking out for repairs. It’s comfortable on long journeys and doesn’t give the same tiredness of travel I get from hire cars at work. Never had an auto before myself. Driven them at work and liked them. The Jatco seems to be set-up just right to vary the balance of power against cruising. When I parks up at my destination I can’t wait to get back in and continue driving. Air conditioning, a heater that works and comfort. I loves ma little pocket range rover I does. He makes me happy.

Passengers often comment how comfortable it is to ride in. Bit more roll on corners than the average car but this can be tamed a bit with careful driving. Mines the v6 so power int a problem. Put yer foot down and it drops gears un revs to 6000. More stress equals more repairs. I prefer to drive it gently rather than thrashing it. Fool economy is poor. But yer can’t really expect anything less from a furra bred.

After a period of good service from my local main dealer I started having problems with them. Bills getting higher. Work carried out not fixing the problem and a massive argument, which they still remember. I’d been doing some of my own repairs for a while so I started to service it myself. Been learning ever since. Parts prices int as cheap as the average car and it’s had more than it’s fair share of replacement parts. But I forgets all that when I’m happily driving it. Yer can’t beat that special moment when it starts first time, or you complete yer journey without something felled oft or it breaking down.

Peeps poke fun at ma hippo. The doors int falled oft and they never will. Onlookers have been surprised at what he can do oft road. If I wanted a proper oft roader I’d buy a Unimog. Anything else is just a pretender. Many don’t realise the capabilities of a Freelander. That dun’t mean he dun’t get stuck. Once bellied out needing a push and twice needing a short pull due to bellied front end and no traction to reverse. Slittys used for recovery.

If I were to listen to the bullies about ma hippos potential faults, I’d be a nervous wreck. All this crap about gaskets, autos, ird, chassis splits… makes yer think it’s the only car in the world that has “design features”. All cars have their own common faults. It’s as if they think they’ll last forever.

I loves ma hippo I does. He makes me happy. We’ve had some sad times when he’s been broke’d but we’ve always got through it so far. I’d miss him if he was proper broke’d, or beyond the point of a feasible repair when considering the cost. It’s my choice to keep him and that’s what I would like to do. I loves ma hippo I does. He makes me happy.

You know what seems to me from reading post on this thread and others is Freelander owners love their hippos while other Landy owners seem to want to either trade up to a better Landy or at least spend **** loads if cash improving what they have while us hippo owners with comfort reliability and a substantial off road capability don't need to , anybody smell sour grapes
