so my RRC was broken into over the weekend (saturday after 6pm to 7am today)

tools stolen but not the impact gun (worth £800)

Informed the fuzz and told insurance,

But the steering coloum is a mess, really disheartend at this,

Since owning it in August i've only done 45 miles in it, most of it around an industial estate.

Ideas welecome over the steering coloum

I'm sorry to hear about your RRC, not the nicest way to start a new year.
I have to be honest though, looking at your pictures, much of the damage does seem to be superficial. The left hand cowl is still in the vehicle, but the fixing holes might be too large now for it to fasten in place properly, so another one might have to be sourced ..... ebay or scrapyard?
The electrical damage looks like only the ignition switch has been attacked. Sadly, that could probably need to be replaced completely with the wires probably being replaced with the switch back to a connector block. Ebay again?
There are also a couple of other wires which need reconnecting, such as that red wire and the crimp joint. Don't know right now about that wire with the brass fitting on it.
I'm sorry for the loss of your tools and I can imagine how you feel right now but sit down and relax for a little while and then look at the car again and you should be able to see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel already.

Sorry for what's happened - that's really crap!! It's a nice looking RRC as well!

I'm currently scrapping a 1993 disco 3.5v8 efi if you want some bits - steering column, electrics or interior (blue but could be painted maybe?)

My rrc of the same year is still on back field. Let me know if there's anything you need. Though when my second ign barrel failed I wired in a generic ign and starter button into scuttle panel and left the key in original to prevent steering locking.

Sorry to hear of your problems especially as a RRC owner myself. Brian's advice is excellent, wait for your (totally understandable) anger to subside then apply logic to the situation & there's a good chance that you will be able to source the replacements you need from the internet or a specialist breaker, most offer a postal service. Lets hope the plod get a result but with their budget cuts I wouldn't hold my breath.

I hate thieving scrotes,:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:, and I feel your pain. Brian47 has it though... take a step back, have a brew ( other beverages are available ;) ), and regroup.

Good luck.

Update,

The fuzz have been round, Insurance assessor, he wasnt happy the the VIN plate replacement on the rad pannel was Engraved not stamped. understandable but getting a stamped one is hard,

just awaiting the recomendation,

Already priced up the parts, as its my job, so gave him the figure, suprising how many parts are still availible new.

labour he put at £50 ph, a steal if i do it, its not hard,

More upset working out what they took, cant replace granddads tools,

Thank you all for the advice, it has helpped massively,

This might be obvious but if they did that to the column they were obviously trying to take it by 'black boxing' it (one of my mates had a ford escort taken the same way years ago) but why did it not go, flat battery, non runner etc...wot I'm saying is make sure it stays a non runner or has been moved in case they decide they want to return for another go

Good luck getting sorted tho, I'm the sentimental type...not nice :(:(:(:mad::mad:

Bastids. Did the feds get any prints or anything useful? Did they even turn up? Best get it off the double yellows be for you get a ticket anorl. See if you can do more than them 45 miles in it too.

Had a long chat with KGM (heritage car insurance under_righters) and long story shourt they want to write if off the road,

All for (using non genuine parts) £175, genuie £450 inc vat,

Majorly fecked off, no doubt they will do some market research to give me a payout, going to do the same thing myself, beat them at their own game

!! long overdue update !!

So the claim was settled at £700,

Many replacement parts bought, suprised at the amount of old new stock of various parts,

Steering lock is past its best, ground the lock off the replacement barrel so it doesnt latch,

On replacing the n/s/r quarter glass i've found all thats holding that door together is rust worms hold hands, so a replacement is now being sourced,

New plenum chamber fitted (source of vacuum leak)

Need a new B&W transfer box as its had a wee all over my works car park (whoops)

Biggest issue by far though is after working off an on over 2 months I've forgotten how the colum goes back together, worse still, what wires are for what switch, I hate bullet connectors !

I haven't much time for insurance companies - IMHO they are always out to stiff you IME. Glad you got some folding out of them.

Hopefully, you'll be on the road again soon.

Why is it hard to get a stamped VIN iv'e just bought a new plate for my 101 that was missing as I need a photo of both plates shown in the user manual to register it here in Portugal I was going to buy a set of metal stamps to do it but have an engraver never thought of that am I missing something regarding marking VIN plates?

When I sort out how to post photos still having probs from when I joined will start a thread on
rebuild\registration and mods ASAP
Hope that none of the worthless *as****s that steal our beloved Landys are members here!!
