There's potholes i go around with big squishy tyres, then look in the mirrors and see the audi etc go straight over/in/thru it with low profiles

It could be the handbrake. A lot of cars do it. As the sus drops the angle of the arm changes at the rear and can force the handbrake a little.

I did suggest handbrake to mechanic who came out but he is convinced it's a sensor
