Update on yesterdays EAS problem. Leaking pipe from compressor to valve block. Replaced with a new one I had in spares box and all good now

Useful tip for doors is to spray night before pre-icer onto a cloth and rub that over the seals before closing. Usually stops doors freezing shut.Waking this comment up. It was cold as a cold thing, on a cold day, in a cold place today. Took 2 cans of de-icer , a kettle of warm water, and 2 hrs to get one door open today. Then had to climb from back, as it was rear passenger that was able to be opened. Tried to start her and she was NOT happy. So had to pop bonnet, climb back out, attach jump box, climb back in , and start her. Then climb back out remove jump, and climb back in.
Hence back to the post I just awakened. Anyone know what those blankets were called? They were a special type of 'cloth'. A sort of grey colour , with specks of colours and edged in what might have been leather. They could be bought at most service stations. Mine was supplied by Volvo with my car.
It now seems I need to start using one again. Can anyone help with name or manufacturer,,or even the type of material used?

Thinking in my daily car for these weather conditions (believe about -5 or below here last night and tonight) of using a couple of milk cartons of hot water at the bottom of the windscreen inside to aid demisting until the engine warms enough. No fbh on a ford fusion that I am aware of.

I was due to come over to the UK before the first Covid lock down mainly to go to Specsavers. Last time they tested me FOC and charged only £17 for my French wife. My last eye test here that proved to be useless was €101!

Had the leaking drivers side drive shaft oil seal changed today. It was a right barsteward to do, not that I did it. Local guy who works on and breaks P38's did it. Also found no 1 injector leaking diesel from body. Great bloke popped me a second hand one in.
He noticed a split in passenger side cv boot so going to do that next week and change seal whilst he's got drive shaft out so both sides done. Top man

I've ordered some silicon spray. Will see how that goes. Other issue is locks frozen solid. I'm hoping having a cover on her reduces the issue. I think the problem yesterday was, heavy rain, followed within 24hrs by a sharp, freeze. So damp just went 'eek', and froze, literally.

The old trick used to be to heat the blade with a lighter so it would warm the mechanism.. don't think that will work on a remote fob though

Would my choice of fuell be impacting mpg at all?
My first choice is the local essar which has a high turnover as is very cheap currently at 143.9 for diesel. Shell is currently at 147.9 for diesel, but will it be any better?
I know essar was struggling a while back, does that mean cheap/rubbish fuel? Should i fill up with shell as a test? Tank is about empty

Here, the MPG difference between supermarket fuel and Total Excellium is barely measurable and certainly does not compensate for the extra cost.

About the same as me, test free through work, glasses 160. Distance is fine, so 2 pairs of readers, one for office one for home. Pick them up Monday.
First glasses since the distance laser surgery 20 odd years ago.

Just tested the hot bottles on dash above screen vent and made a huge demisting difference.
Also on the Fusion found run engine for 5 mins or so, leave to heat soak system for 5, then drive is better than 10 mins running constantly.

Today it snowed so I lifted the dust sheet and started it in the garage....

No. It’s all diesel substitute these days anyhow. By all means test yourself but I used to run on red and even that made next to no difference to mpg.

Rears were a pain and took a day each side due to age and corrosion, especially at the top of the mounts. Fronts were pretty easy.

The clips are only about 5ye old, no salt on the roads here so that helps an awful lot.
The rear springs when I did them were dusted and copper sprayed to keep the corrosion down. Sundays job for me
