Mines gotta go, put a deposit on a nice D2 pick it up Friday 😁

3.6 tdv8 172k vogue se

Cam covers leaking, thermo housing leaking so uses a bit of coolant, a/c fan doesn't work but been told by indy it'll be the motor seized, drivers heated seat not working, does cool tho.

Pulls well nonknocks or anything

Dry as a bone, good sills etc, bit of rust coming back thru on one arch, tailgate perfect

Any idea on value lads/laddettes?

I was thinking 3 grand. I gave 3250 and did the gbox service and rear prop, oh and the heater control valve but I'm realistic on value
D2 v8?

£3k and the same again in therapy. If you can afford it, just scrap it and save someone an ulcer ;)

Contemplating breaking it on the drive if I get no interest. All I can do is be honest with what I know it needs, then its up to them isn't it. I need 2 grand out of it ideally

What made you want to swap an L322 for the D2? :D
An excellent question that requires an honest answer 🤔

I always regretted selling my OG D2 when I got into a td5 110. My kids cried when it went... so thats the main background. Just love D2s.

I got bored of the audi and wanted another LR but discounted the D2 cuz i convinced myself theyre just too old and rotten now. (This one is not rotten, I'll post about it if I do go thru with purchase)

So I was looking at D3 but just couldn't get past the 2.7 issues and got my fingers burnt on the one I replaced the 110 with

I did have a deal in situ with a member on here for his lovely D3, I trusted the car because of how he'd looked after it but it came to an untimely and tragic demise before we could complete

So I thought 'fùck it, in for a penny etc. I'll get a tdv8 range. No snappy crank. If it goes bang I'll get it sorted.'

Ha. Fool.

So I ended up with this one which I rushed into, not gonna lie. I was a bit careless. I've been going thru some health issues and had 12 weeks off work this year so maybe felt a bit sorry for myself and wanted a treat.

I bought the wrong car basically. Sank a grand into it straight away with the gearbox service, rear prop etc. Had a tidy up list that seemed doable. Happy days.

But now I've ran it for over 5 months, I've got to know it and with all those issues listed above, the potential bork factor is strong with this one and I'm frankly terrified of it now. Any potential buyer will be told and shown everything i know is wrong because id be selling off my drive and I'm not a prìck like some unscrupulous bastards.

I'm not yer huckleberry l322, sorry

So I got thinking (again) either sink a couple of grand (at least) into it or take the hit, give someone else a go leaving enough in it for them and get into a well sorted D2 again. A car I actually know my way around a bit more and is repairable at home (in the main)
Plus, the range just never felt right for me. I'm not flash enough if you know what I mean, no offence to any other owners I just don't fit the car

I've found a really good indy through owning the 322 so any jobs i can't do i feel more confident I can keep it sorted at a reasonable cost compared to an L322 or a D3 for that matter.

The one I've found has been family owned since 2005, I spoke to the owner for 40mins on the phone, hes a land rover man. He's selling because he's in a D3 now...anyway I've viewed a few, not spunked on the first one I've seen, I feel confident I've got the right car this time.

So thats it really. I bought a bit of a pup, made it a bit less of a pup (it does drive fantastic) and I've got no inclination to put any more money into it. Is there an element of romanticism regarding a D2? Probably, yeah. But I could be dead next week so I'm gonna buy the car I actually want and fix it when it breaks

Oh right, makes sense :)

Similar here I've had 3 L322's and still kept the P38 and D2 around, just something about the older LR's that tends to stick. :)

Brilliant cars, great family tools but beyond me mentally and financially to be honest. I'm not the most confident bloke, bit of an introvert so I feel a bit of a dìck driving round in it 😆

Just the feel of an older, live axle landy with a manual box gets my juices flowing 😂

I agree, my D2 i have a feeling is turning in to a barnfind, certainly has enough dust collected on it :) :vb-eyes:

It was actually on Sunday but I collected a little Fiat 500 for my 82 year-old aunt who has recently been given the all clear to start driving again after a minor stroke last year. She is VERY excited! <900kg of small car on a frame? The L322 didn't even notice that on the back for 80 miles

Good luck with your new D2 :)

I got a spare one of them wheels here somewhere. Free to good home.

Thanks. So have I!

Wheel was OK. New tyres fitted today and solved the mystery: she went off the edge of the road. The wheel dropped and the brake disc shield dropped onto the tarmac, bent up into the brake disc and deformed so that the top edge cut into the inside of the tyre with predictable consequences. Driving another 2 miles finished it off.

Bent the brake disc shield straight, had Grabber AT3 fitted and although the pattern isn't as open as the AT2 they're very good on the road.

The wife's bloody jinxed.

She came back this evening with steam pouring out of the bonnet. She claims the red light only came on as she turned in the drive yet there was antifreeze all over the top of the gearbox and engine and not a drop of coolant left in it.

After letting it cool down I discovered a hole in the coolant pipe by #1 injector. Original pupe so 28 years old and with hindsight I should have replaced it. Swapped it for the one on the scrapper and refilled with water. Seemed to run OK but waiting to see if it behaves over the next few days and hoping to hell the head isn't cracked. It was brand new last year so I will be gutted if it has been toasted. I cannot afford to do again for a start. I wish she'd bloody look at the dash once in a while.

You’ll probably be fine bud. When my water pump blew didn’t take long to evaporate what was left. Not surprised with the hole it made in the rad. had no choice but to keep driving. Red overheat light comes on then limp mode kicks in shortly after. Eventually it cuts out. Let it cool then it was good to again, rinse and repeat few times….didn’t bother it one bit. You may even remember me fitting a the replacement metal impeller (was while ago) never had any head issues or any lasting effects. Hardest part was meticulously getting all the OE plastic impeller shrapnel out.
