Didn't they drop the 1800 MGB unit into them

The 1300 unit dropped straight in. Trying to remember what Austin it was out of. Metro? Allegro? Maybe Maestro?

People put all sorts in. My favourite was the v12 Jag unit with Jag running gear but some fairly hefty modification was required including moving the bulkhead.

Don't think it was any of those three, they were transverse engines.

But the gearbox was also the sump.unlike modern transverse engines that bolt on to the gearbox.the engine sat on top of the gearbox.
Drop on a normal sump and any other gearbox, it is still just an A series engine. It'd make a weird place to start as a donor in that package though. Unless all they needed was a block?

Far easier to use the Marina unit,I do remember an article in one of the car mags at the time messing about having a sump fabricated to fit a 1275 engine in.

Have a look on The Morris Minor Owners Club site its not that straightforward, the MG Midget seems to be the one they go for without having to change cranks back plates flywheel etc.

Did totally legitimate things to get my car through MoT Test. Couldn't find the break in earth to fix the LH inboard main, so I had to make a temporary strap which piggyback the RH inboard main. In the process of trying to remove the LH assembly I ended up spinning the studs in the housing so for now 2 of the 4 anchor points are cable tied in... and did totally legitimate things with the ABS. But I feel the less said about that the better. But as I said, totally legitimate. Honest.

But what heretic would kill a Midget to keep a Minor going longer?
