What did you do with your Range Rover today

Hilux, bizarre vehicles, mine was only happy on the road if it had 3/4 ton in the back. Then handled like a dream, otherwise bounced around like a rabbit on speed..!!

Wouldn't that mean he would have lost the front end, as they would hit the slippery stuff first? @TallPaulB were you reversing around it?:p:D
Not necessarily. I lost the back end on mine on a roundabout on top of the M53, scary moment, full opposite lock heading for the bridge railing. I have been known to push the beast to the limit but I treat that junction with a lot more respect now.

Today stopped raining :)
Until i dropped the Transfer box oil, then hail :(

This is what I got out -

Looks like the guiness outta @Henry_b 's autobox

And this is how I put the nice red ATF dextron 3 in -

Naturally, I got it everywhere and still wreak of the stuff. All over the rusted-to-hell front exhaust pipe.

Previously I managed to crack a little grease into the Rusty UJ's, so gave it another go. Success! There is only now 1corner of one not fully cracked off and no discernible play :) It will probably spit everywhere.
By time I'd finished the ATF had transformed my exhaust pipe to a strange shiny metallic like new colour - never seen under a P38 since 2001!:D So I've wiped it everywhere
Test drive next :):):)

I don't think so, all were loose enough I thought.
However,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, fecking noise came back today after a round trip of just 3 miles :mad::mad::mad:
BUT it came on just as I was getting home so parked up as normal. Of course it stopped when we came to a stop, good opportunity in the morning to get the rear right hand wheel off and have a good look at the brake pads, the rubbing grinding noise did seem to come from the right rear.

sticky caliper piston pushing the pad ?

gave the L322 a bit of a blat to heat the cats up.. 2 miles to work isn't getting them hot and it ran a little lumpy till after the blat new O2 sensors ordered. went round to my mums to run the P38 up and get it warms. started on the button and sounds deep, smooth and sweet. went to the farm to pay the farmer for storing the CSK and Suffix A

Yes that is now my suspicion as well, I had taken all wheels off not long ago and removed all pads, cleaned, greased and replaced. One piston did seem stiffer than the other 11 but did move so discounted it at the time.
Have now started another thread about replacing pistons.
After various comments on that thread I have just ordered a pair of new calipers for the back end. Can't be much else now I hope.

Whats the L322 like compared to the P38 Adam?

Whats the L322 like compared to the P38 Adam?

well the L322 is supercharged. its monumental when the forced induction kicks in its so rapid for such a big lump. comfort wise its an evolution of the P38 with more features, its bigger too. systems wise more complex, a lot more and I don't know if its just the SC but under the bonnet there not a lot of room at all. it has a squeak from a belt or pully. to get to it, front scuttle panel out, oil cap off, engine top cover off and you can just see the belt. its hiding below the thermostat housing, cant even see all the pulleys. I gave up when it started raining.... unlike the P38.. water pump. done in what 45 minutes ! in summary, more comfort, more toys and features, more complex, more of a ballache to work on. I still love the P38 though

Very good.

Ballache they're but sound fun!!

I used to have a squeak from front left that I swore was sticky brake. A lot of trial and error turned out to be a loose wheel weight that would only stick out on load and ever so slightly touch back of caliper.

Took few weeks to find out. I have 16's with big tyres so not much room between rim and caliper. Only checked them thinking I may have damaged them putting wheel back on so many times and hey presto :D Sounded exactly like rub on the disc

I found the Britpart calipers are square but Land Rover have the corners cut off. With Britpart there was so little clearance with my 16" rims that when off roading the flex or **** getting in there was enough to knock off some of the wheel weights stuck to the inside of the rim. Need to be very careful where you put balance weights with Britpart calipers. I kept the old Land Rover ones meaning to refurb in a spare moment. They're still in the garage!

Think my calipers are Ferodo? Have some antiquity to them I think I will have to cut the carrier pistons off but they are good for now.
Whenever you get wheels balanced and turn up with 32's they start shaking their head and tutting  Many say it can't be done and/or refuse. I usually say 'let the youngster have a go, boy gotta learn' and they do :D
Takes patience (and weights) but it can be done if they try, always one ends up with few hundred :D
Il take some pics next chance so you can have a good laugh at the layering ;)

Of course they are, you must have enough in there to build another car.:D:D:D
