So £540 for the pump and he charged £760 to fit it and change oil. That is ridiculous for a mornings work.

Labour was 520, parts were 530, and then 50 quid for oil. Plus 220 for vat. It also took more than a morning as my bus wouldn't let go of the old pump. The ridiculous part is probably that I am happy to throw big chunks of cash at the old girl. But I don't have the toys to properly time up an FIP on a M51. If they were fitted with the 300TDI, no dramas, as I work on them all day. But these engines are a bit outside my scope.
 
As the "new" 17YO RR is absolutely bog-standard and has the original HK sound system with a 6-CD changer, I bought one of those cheap cigar-lighter 3 in 1 doodads that provides an FM radio output and accepts USB sticks as well as providing BlueTooth phone connection and power for phone/sat-nav, and a helpful Volts display.
Arrives Sunday via Amazon.
I already have all of my music collection ripped to MP3 and on a stick and we use this in the wife's Citroen to provide virtually unlimited variety of music (can't stand radio and the incessant chatter and adverts). I am hopeful that it will work OK.

With correct tooling it is no more than a mornings work.

Sounds like a Tunecast clone. I found it wasn't up to much in mine as the FM output has to be limited by law. Guess a cheap copy might have a more powerful output and actually be better.

Yes mate I bought the 4.2 S/C and it is fantastic!! So smooth and the economy isn't much worse than my old 3.6 TdV8 tbh but when you put the foot down the noise is exquisite. I would highly recommend the S/C version if you don't mind the slightly higher running costs
 
New tailgate button (no wonder the bottom of the tailgate rots, there's no seal to stop the water getting in. Not sure if there should be or not)
New tailgate struts.
New drivers door mirror (now I know they are OK, I'll replace the drivers one too so they're both heated)
Bonnet release cable to fit tomorrow then need to organise a new windscreen.
Then it'll be getting a full oils change and off across Europe once again.

There should be a small seal around the button, mine rotted and crumbled when I was fault finding the tailgate not opening. But the seals are all over The Bay.
 
What a day!! Mr pwood999 has taken it all away to fix my problems, 3 compressors and 2 air valve sets, im hoping that its all up and running in a few days time hes been a lot of help
 
Re-con turbo arrived today so thought I'd get on and fit it, first problem copper oil seals hadn't arrived from Craddocks so cleaned up and annealed old ones and swapped the fittings over. Bonus was the exhaust studs were included, so didn't have the drama of trying to swap them out. ( on same order)
Couldn't get the last nut on the exhaust manifold, had to fiddle about taking the bleedin thing off again to fit it first.:mad::mad:
Couldn't get the bottom oil union to thread, noticed the body was slightly off clock. Didn't want to stress the oil hose so TOOK IT OFF:mad::mad::mad: again to rotate the pressure side a few degrees to line everything up.:confused::confused:
Gave up after dropping one of the fixing nuts for the second time and couldn't find it in the dark.:mad::(:mad::(:mad::(
Finish in the morning, touch wood, crossing everything, etc etc. Hope the poxy thing is alright.
 
Got the MP3 Bluetooth FM player thingy today. Nulaxy KM20, from a seller on Amazon.
It works really well. I have to say that I am impressed with the audio quality even after it has played it out over an in-built radio transmitter to the car's music system.
It certainly adds a lot of capacity to the existing 17YO sound system. On start up (ignition-on) it tells you the battery volts too (also useful).
It allows you to push content out via an FM radio frequency (anything from 87.5 to 108.0 Mhz) injected from:
  • TF Card slot.
  • USB stick slot.
  • Bluetooth connection to a smart-phone.
  • Aux Analogue 3mm Jack socket.
Any of these sources streamed out to the inbuilt car music system via either, Radio frequency or Aux socket (or Bluetooth if your sound system supports it).
I never got into the whole iPod music player thing but ripping my CD's to MP3 was done years ago when I made my digital juke-box so writing them to a TF card or USB is easy for me.
Oh, it also does phone hands-free (limited) via Bluetooth.
I hold no brief for the manufacturer and there are probably better bits of kit out there I am sure.
But for a mere £13.99 I now have 6-CD's and 32GB of MP3's to listen to. Not bad at all.

Finished fitting the turbo this morning, dropped plenty of oil through it as I fitted the top oil pipe, started her up and let her tick over for a few minutes. All seemed good so took her out for a little run, bit of smoke the first couple of times I briefly brought the revs up to 2000, then seemed to clear once fully warm. Short run later and all seemed good, no excess smoke. Took the hose off the pressure side, light filming of oil inside, I guess everything is fine.
Result. :):):):)

Now all I have to do is replace the alternator on my 90 and I shall be back to square one, but that's another story.
 
Not so much a do but a thought: I'm trying to remember if the rear nearside courtesy light stopped working the same time I replaced my BECM powerboard with Marty a year or so ago. Might be the reason that spare BECM was a fiver!

Decided that while I had the head off I would replace the timing chains, and any guides and tensioners that I need to. Water pump was a bit noisy and it had the plastic impeller so new one ordered. Christmas has come early for the old beast
