Finally fine day here in Accy so got the fip changed finally. All back together and running. Bit of a pig to get it set to .90 lift though, every time I tightened the bolts back up the bloody thing moved slightly and went to.88 so set it to .92 tightened the bolts up and it eventually went to .90. Happy bunny now hopefully this pump is OK and I don't get the power drop ass clench heart stop mode again passing a wagon on the motorway with no where to go but let the wagon overtake you on the inside and irate drivers behind until wagon has passed and you can get to the hard shoulder:(:(

So just bought my old bmw back. So trailer on tomorrow and pull that back home.
heap of miles been back and forward to the city.
Mots booked for 2 weeks time on the rangie see how much it needs.
Long crank on a hot start needs investigation.
Possible rear wheelbearing.
Front trackings out side to side

But no leaks drives well and hasnt shown any major issues which is always a worry with a new motor

First head is off, nearside, bores and gasket look fine, but God it put up a fight!

Hacked the heatshields off, then had two manifold bolts siezed in the head, got them out but the threads are probably FUBAR'd. We have two single hex 5/8" long airgun sockets, and this one proves why, we had a 3ft bar with two of us on it to undo a couple of the bolts.

Just cooling off, it's very hot outside in our yard whch is fully screened from breezes but gets the full afternoon sun.

Valves and plugs show no abnormalities on this head, looks like linishing marks around the bore on the gasket face, but all OK.

The photos look very familiar:(
What do you mean by linishing marks around the bore on the gasket face, any pics?

Should have had your Weetabix. :)

I'll try and get some Macro shots of the block surface tomorrow, it doesn't show that well on normall photo's. If you look closely at the first shot you may pick it up.

Second head is off, really tight bolts on this one too.

Bores look pretty good, no obvious cracks or signs of movement in the liners.

Tight is good. They're stretch bolts. When they're loose you want to worry!

Plugged in my heads up display so far not to bad if I like it then I will run the cable behind the dash so its all neat n tidy. Can switch from engine temp to volts to mph at the push of a button.

I take it this is a different sort of HUD* than the type I automatically thought of. Is it a sort of techno-trickery, LED, type, clear panel, that can be placed on the dash?

* Fly-Boys style.

Yep very simple bit of kit just plugs into the obd2 socket and displays data onto the windscreen via a small patch that you stick on to the inside of the screen. It gives a warning beep for low volts etc seems a handy thing will report back after proper testing

Washed her , then got out the masking tape and touch up paint. The colour coded paint on the door handle was showing a couple of mm of the black underneath. So sorted that and a 2" long scratch some $#@#@$ had left on the rear bumper.
Then went back to the mundane job of painting the fence.

Picked my old bmw up ended up with it back without headlights alloys or the coilovers it was on (part of the deal of getting it back)
For 40 out my own pocket I have a fully running and driving 323ci With a 3.0 in it.
The good old rangie must hate me totally standard powerwise on a 150mile trip with a trailer that isnt mine with that on the back of it I now have creak at the back and an abs fault has appeared im guessing without investigation cv joint.
apart from that faultless tow sat happy at 50 and was brilliant. Been offered good money as she sits with a years test on it so may take the boy up on the offer and find myself an auto again.
Granted this manuals a world away to the black previous rangie
Heres some pictures just because
