Well I was trying to be polite. Some of my other forums prevent bad language so its a bit of a habit. But I do like the idea of having Koi readily available wherever your are.

Don't worry crap is fine as are bollocks, bugger and such. Calling someone a cock is fine also, but the MOD does frown on calling someone a dick for some reason. Even if they are. :D:D

Well got my bearing back to Land Rover to get the correct one.
Changed the diesel filter since it's one of the few items that hasn't been done in the past 6month.
Need to look at a way of de-tinting the rear lights and front indicators (or must be replaced with clears not ambers)
Want a pair of new headlights too don't care if they're earlier or later style but want brand new (any suggestions?)
as halogen units eventually get dim.

Got spray to half colour code the front bumpers and mirrors like my old dse (red one)

Changed out XYZ gearbox indicator. Old one breather pipe had come adrift and letting crap in. Hope this cures intermittent fault of gearbox reverting to limp mode when warmed up after a decent run.

Well went to see about getting tyres swapped onto my wheels.
They're 3mm in the centre and 6on the outer (previous owner had them too hard)
So they're a couple of psi soft now may aswell leave them a few more week.
Iv aquired 2 nearly new front air springs.
Spoke to a scrappy around here I can have 2 eas compressors 2 valve block things 8 height sensors. And 2eas ecus and any airsprings and shocks that are usable also front prop ( are they all the same? Petrol diesel auto manual?) for £100 dismantle myself so il go see what's useful.
Try get Some normal untinted lights a roof lining and other bits of trim I need aswell

Also got a good coming out of a current driving rr 2nd hand gearbox and 2rear coil spring top locators (for now) on way 90quid + postage.

Transfer box bearing will be next weekend.

Iv also been given a complete o/s headlight with wiper motor (mines broke)
A front diff.
A roof lining skin.
Spare grill.
And my pals got a 325tds bmw with a hole in the block was running big boost. He Said if I take I it out I can take it as it is so a few spares to hand if need be

Not sure if the auto and manual props are the same?

Stripped the spare tailgate I have and cleaned it all up and gave it a good detail ready to assemble all the bits off mine into it. Finished the wiring for the tailgate side lights too and stuck a couple of bulbs in. Trimmed the inner light clusters so they would take the bulbs. I want to do a full cluster mod at some point but now the fogs illuminate with the side lights(not to bright either. Fogs still work obviously) so now the back end has more light.

Is that legal?[/QUOTE]
Did the same with a e46 a 5w bulb in each fog light. The fog still illuminated brighter like a merc does side and fog instead of fog and break.
Passed an mot and never had any grief with it.
Never got any greif with the us style markers either

Pics please dude I'm intrigued

I'll post a pic later. Currently round a friends. The light holder has 3 bulb spaces. One is unused. I've just wired the unused space up to the side lights and fitted a bulb. Fogs and reverse are still in place as normal. Fog has a hole in the top of the plastic like it was half designed to be used as a sidelight as well. I just cut the foam and the rib out for now but will be modding the light properly and I'll show the wiring too. Very easy to do.

Short answer ... No.
If I'm reading it correctly ,the fogs are coming in with the side lights?

Addit: Read it again and would still say No. If the lens for the fog light is illuminated , on a public highway, unless when necessary, it's a Gotcha moment. If it is being illuminated from a fault in that scenario, it's a 'get it fixed' moment. In the case of modifying it to make it brighter , he might be lucky and be told to fix it, as it's a defect. Personally , I'd class it as a Gotcha, as he has deliberately chosen to have the lens illuminated to, in his own words, have the back end have more light.
Doesn't matter how long they've got away with it , it becomes a Gotcha the moment they get stopped for it ;)

Interesting. I wasn't aware that doing that was illegal tbh. Right here are some pics to show what's been done. First one is sidelights. Second is with fogs. Third is the standard bulb holder with the centre holder wired for the sidelight. Remember that one usually has no bulb and is not powered by the loom. Fog and reverse are still separate as you can see. As said eventually I want to mod the side light so it has its own light box which will obviously make the current legality discussion irrelevant. I can just take the bulb out and it looks totallly normal too. I want the tail light to extend in between the reverse and the fog of that makes it more understandable as to what my final goal is.

A point from stustrong. Yes how do merc get round this as the last model c class (10 plate ish) one of the lower sidelights illuminated brighter when the fog was on as I recall so is this not the same as that?

That is exactly same as I did with the BMW I never got any greif with it and it attracted police attention everywhere with the welded diff.

Technically you shouldn't modify any external light sorce but way you've done them it's 2 extra sidelights the fogs are still separate bulbs and operate as they should.
If you are cautious mabye a quick stop past a friendly mot station to have a quick look and see if it's acceptable or not.

A facelift e46 saloon has that set up from the factory as you've have done in the inner boot lights

Mercs have a 5/21w bulb the 5w is side light and the 21iluminates and that's the fog.

By going with your pics youve added a 5w bulb to the 3rd holder and left the 21w as the fog.

To be fair people do a lot worse like fitting hids or leds in non projector halogen headlights (one of my pet hates)

Cheer mate. Thanks for the info. Remember some cars came from factory with hid'd and no projectors before the law was changed ;). I'm not sure about modifying external lights rule as would that not make all aftermarket light clusters illegal too? I'll pop into an MOT station and ask the question at some point.
