Correct, all HEVAC are the same except the compressor drive output.

Looked earlier today, and Storey's site seems to show all modules, except the Diesel & SRS. The videos show an earlier version with less ECU's.

While we're on it I tried some later versions of his software for the the v8 L322 on a diesel model and most of the modules on that also worked.
 
That's the part that is different. As far as I am aware the rest is the same but I may be wrong. Marty knows a lot more about HEVAC as he's had a lot more apart.
It's got nothing to do with GEMS, all early cars petrol or diesel had the aircon operated direct from the HEVAC, on later all cars, operation was via a relay.

There's something different in the way GEMS ties into the HEVAC. Thor and diesel are different. I cannot recall now what it is because I have had too much beer but it'll come back to me. And yes, early models were driven direct rather than by a relay.

I seem to rrcall the first time it cropped up was when that trucker in the States who was originally from Blackpool replaced his GEMS with an LS1 lump and couldn't get the HEVAC to work. Again, Marty recalls this stuff better as he's spent more time working on it.

The only real difference is the wiring external to the HEVAC to the various engine ECU types. They all go to pins 13 & 14 on the HEVAC. Fusebox & condenser fan relays are also different, but again same pins on HEVAC.

I suspect the LS1 guy simply required the A/C request / grant sorting, which is what those wires are for. . . .

I do know all the screens are the same, got a dt one fitted in my hse.
Replacement injector has arrived so will be fitting that shortly.
Injector fitted, borrowed a seat cutting kit, never used one before and not got to use this one either, biggest cutting head was too small in diameter so I cleaned it up best I could. Think I might have found why I was getting air leaking from around the injector threads but I may be premature, wait and see for a bit. I'll test that with a squirt of wd40 after a few weeks. The old injector had a slight score around one of the leak off nipples otherwise I could see no other reason why it kept leaking from there resulting in 6 monthly pipe replacement.
Anywhoo, the set of 6 injector washers I got off ebay are smaller in outside diameter, never noticed when I changed it a while back, twice now, trying to stop the blow by, the replacement injector had a dunk in the sonic cleaner and fitted without changing the washer.
Pic is replacement injector on the left and my leaky one on the right. Look how smaller the ebay washer is. 1.5mm overall smaller ID than the original fitted to the replacement.

That rings a bell. The GEMS is much more closely tied in to the BECM. I have a vague memory it wouldn't engage but Marty realised the diesel and Thor are different and tied a wire in somewhere or grounded it and it all started working.
 

Spent a few hrs yesterday with a friend helping to fit a second hand blend motor to his 38 drivers side. Learnt quite a bit as did he. Ebay motor only had 2 wires, the original one had 4, looked identical outside though just only 2 wires. Insides were different though, less gears and no potometer. Since found out that the ebay one was a recirculation motor that fit near the blowers somewhere. Using a 9v battery showed his motor was dead but the ebay one was good so we swopped over the motors and the job was jobbed. He has had the book symbol for 2 years, that's now gone. He's happy and I've learnt more 38 stuff.
 
Blend & distribution motors have 5 wires, not 4.
Twas just a quick glance though. 5 wires it is thanks.
His were lovely and quiet when testing them all post repair, we didn't know if his pot was OK but it was on the nano so just a dead motor. Mine make quite nasty crunchy noises when testing with the nano which I need to investigate further as I can't remember if it was 2 or 3 of them making a noise.
Having never messed about with the motors until yesterday it looks easy enough , if the gears are OK, to fit new pots and new motors to my existing 3 and save some cash.
I'm sure I read that motors are available but can't find the info now but I havnt tried that hard tbf, been busy lately.
