Our cabs throw fuel overboard on shutdown rather than draining back to the tank, so part of the job is to collect it from the overboard tank before that fills and they do dump it overboard. I remember a story of a Chief Technician who was a right rrrrr's hole had a habit of flicking his cigarette into a 45gallon drum that had the top cut off and used as a FOD bin in a hangar.some underling was so miffed with him he emptied a couple of gallons of Avpin into it :eek: He then had time to reflect and emptied it,if he hadn't then the Chief and the hangar would have been flattened.:eek::D:D

It's the fumes that go whoomp and only in the correct mix with oxygen. reminds me of the Airplane 2 movie with No Smoking and No Spitting signs.
 
Today got back from work early and waxoiled under the car all the blacks done now will do the clear in the week does anyone know how long it takes to dry

What a coward. Should've committed to it and ride out the aftermath like a man.
No chance of that happening these days though. MoD is going smoke free. Had a few lads here bust down for violating the non-smoking policy. It is wild.

Jokes aside, going green in the Army isn't a bad idea though, a diesel electric tank would get incredible endurance, a LFG burns about 60l of fuel a day. Imagine a chally2 that only needed 60l of fuel with 24 hours of endurance? It'd revolutionise the battlefield.

It looks like tanks are outdated now, drones have knocked out hundreds of Russian tanks.

Realistically there will be a place for them, but it isn't the battlefield winner it once was. But the same theory runs down to all vehicles. If they have reduced fuel requirements, it saves a burden for logistics. Op Newcombe in Mali. Keeping that road trail fuelled is a nightmare. Imagine if they only needed 60l per vehicle per day (less than 30l really, given 12 hours of driving is unlikely).

But hey-ho, no doubt the MoD will go down the pure EV route and absolutely **** themselves into a hole.

guess he thought of his future,a couple of hours evaporating then a small source of ignition with a detonation velocity of approximately 5400 m/s :eek::eek::eek:;) it is a low sensitivity explosive when all said and done.

We've had that on wife's car (admittedly steel wheels). Was down to a patch of corrosion on the bead seating surface, some positions it would seat OK under the load, others it was obviously strained in a different way and went down gradually (2-6psi a day usually). So sometimes it would be almost flat after 3-4 days, sometimes just a bit soft, sometimes unaffected. Worked it out after keeping track of the wheel position (clock location of valve) while parked. Garage popped the tyre off, cleaned everything up thoroughly and it has been fine since.
 
+1 that’s what did to mine. Popped bead off dropping the front wheel on it with just spare rim fitted, cleaned it up, popped it back on is okay year later.

What's a good glue for some proper vehicular DIY?
Need to chop a bolt point off a radiator and replace with a bracket instead. Aryldite is only good for 80c.
Fixing my bike with a new radiator but the proper one isn't made anymore, one off a different model is 99% the same apart from the fixings

I had something similar, took the wheel off and found a crack the entire circumference of the inside side wall. You'd think it has been driven flat, but it never had, was just a rubbish tyre

Done bracket mounts and the like with JB Weld / Plumber's Mait - basically any reasonable epoxy steel. Make sure it is well curd before loading though. Ideally use it as a filler where you can still put some mechanical slot / hole a bit like a dovetail joint in woodwork.

Has that on the Jag. Turned out I was getting lucky and parking on top of the (slow) puncture. In some circumstances the tyre opened up the hoke and in others it closed it. Only found it by taking the wheel off and putting it in a tank of water. Marked it for the garage and they put a plug in for me.
