right for those who wasnt on the shindig and didnt get to see the state of the paint work on the 275 quid v8 rangie scrap jockying RRC here yer go...
Image041.jpg

was basically like that all over the car, its had paint before and the rear end now appears to have been taken off a creamy yellowish one, no signs of any crash damage but both rear quarters and rear panels are off the same car and the tailgate was white.
an orbital and conventional sander on the go and hey presto...

the laquar is a pain to get through and its gotta be taken right back is there is a step between the laquer the the faded unlaquered dull paint.

you dont realalise how unstrait panels are untill you sand them back, raises and dips everywhere.

fiberglass filler is being used where old metal has been cut back to fresh and small skims of filler in slight dips and raises tapped back down.

more will follow when progress is updated, dont use the as a guid as to be honest its a rush job to get it looking better than it was as its getting sold soon, mechanically bob on just the looks let the old girl down.

gonna spend today (monday) priming her, another rub, eliminate any dips with another skim, another prime then into paint on tuesday.

enjoy! :D

if its goin on fleebay i wudnt bother flattin it just mop it an sell it as avin a recent paint job (wudnt get more for it so save the agro of doin it)

yer prob just be a flea bay job in the near future as a soft dash 300 tdi came on the scene for 600 quid, plus the jap conversion one is still sitting there, along with an l reg 4.0 with brooklands and so on and so forth, i need them gone!!

hiya mate, where do start with yer......... thing about landys is the alloy skin gets loads more dents than a convetional panel due to it being softer, unless your really prepered to do the man hours and or change panels i really wouldnt bother, especially in black!!!! its gotta be one of the worst colours to spray in gloss as it will show up absolutly everything.

this was just a quick job as it was in a **** state.

if yer gonna do it you need about a litre of primer, high build.
concetrate on the inside lip or the arches as this is where they get in a state, door bottoms etc etc
if yer want a really good finish i would use about 6 litres of gloss, plus thinners, plus hardner, we used 2 pack paint. do it indoors and keep it at room temp. leave for a week then flat it to death, with that amount of paint you should get a good finish, do the detail work i.e. arches, shuts etc then the main parts and never stop on a panel always spray off then back on to eliminate any coudyness.

sorry if yer know all this, just dont think its a wise choice of colour to do.

i wreckon about 110 120 quid worth in paint for yer, the thicker the layer the more it can be flatted ;)

one thing to bare in mind though, the more depth to the paint the easier it chips and flakes (why do you think old Rolls Royces are for ever requiring paintwork)

that will be 10 litres mixed, so that will give you 14 gun fulls, 3 gun fulls to do the car with one coat, so yep enough for 4+coats.

raz two paint job and hardener ah right I seen at Partco they sell ready mix paint u just mix with thinner 50/50 and spray on 4 coats etc build it up and let it dry for a week then polish with wax that correct? I need to srpay a panel anyway as u know my disco was involved in a shunt and today I have replace everything back on with new bilkhead and second hand bumper all okay and my disco is metalic red and the outer wing is black so need to spray to match etc I have air pump so thought be easier to spray that rather from a noddle spray can

erm......... yes use your compressor, try using G3 and a buffer first before you try and flat it with wet and dry, go easy on corners and edges. spraying is a big learning curve so be patient. tip with the buffer it to have it on slow as it gets a key on the paint better, too fast and ittle burn your paint. hope all goes well :D
