Right, it seems i may have a problem somewhere and would appreciate advice regarding where to look.

1) Car has approx 120K miles on the clock.
2) Regular turning in forwards & reverse at full lock = no major handbrake on feeling, all smooth.
3) Fuel consumption normal
3) i have been hearing a slight graunch from the front when going over bumps or sometimes turning, also get the feeling the offside front of the car seems a little lower /softer than normal

Today i was reversing out of a parking space, on full lock, and heard a very slight grinding sound for a split second...then nothing, all fine, no loss of drive, car continues to revers on full lock no problem.

Got to work, tried on the work carpark and got the same result. No clonks, or bangs, or anything, just a very slight short grind, then all fine.

In both cases could not feel anything in the drive itself, it was continualy smooth, did not need to apply acceleretor to make it reverse at full lock.

What would i be looking at here? No bearings or anythign have ever neede changing, but Czech roads at totally cack.

Would this be early IRD failure? Antiroll bar rubbing? CV joints?

Any advice welcome!

------ UPDATE ----

ok, my mind wouldn't rest, so took it for a drive at lunch. found an empy car park (on a hill) and did a couple of turns at full lock left and right, no sound. couple of turns at full lock in reverse, 99% no sound, then some very very faint noises: 1) like something rubbing against something else, slight grind for a second 2) like something bumping into something else - the noises only happen when it seems to be on a slope or over a bump while on full lock reverse. Nothign i would call a crack or drive problem.

How would i check anti-roll bar, cv joints?

I had a strange noise on full lock with the TD4 and found the plastic inner wheel arch liner that clips into the engine undertray had become unclipped and would sometimes rub on the wheel - worth checking.

To check the front anti roll bar drop links by putting the steering on full lock but keep the wheel on the ground so the weight of the car goes through it, get a pry bar and check for free play at the drop link ball joints.
