Here's the story in brief: my 90 (1995 2.5 petrol ex-military) was misfiring. I changed the points but did it wrong apparently. Drove to the petrol station to wash it. Whilst using the jet wash the winch power supply exploded  then the landy wouldn't start.
RAC spent 3 hours getting me going (I mean the Landy ) and arranged to come back today.
They did, and he changed the points, condenser, coil (a 12v although the vehicle is 24v) rotar arm and HT leads. Got it going and ticking over at 650 rpm. Whilst he was there it worked fine but as soon as he went it misfired again. Only slightly now though and mainly as I am pulling away.
What is the most likely cause?

Check the coil is it getting very hot.?had similar issues when I replaced mine.....ran ****e bad starting and missfire, coil was getting to hot to touch...worth popping the bonnet and checking...had to replace my new coil and problem was sorted...also ran new wires and spade connectors too as the old ones were slightly perished.

Blocked pilot jet in carb!! Take the lid off careful with the choke flap and gasket ! Clean out the float bowl and blow the brass jets thru with airline reassemble take care with gaskets !!! Warm it up and adjust mixture screw to get the best idle !!

Thanks, will give it a go

Have you fitted a 24V relay to give you a 12V feed from one battery to the coil?

If not, then you will probably overheat the coil which could be the cause of your misfire.

Hope this helps.

Personally I would recheck the coil before opening up the carb, you may cause more problems, the coils can be quite tempremental.check all the wires that run from the coil and connections, also check the coil is earthed to the bulk head with a good clean connection...

Ok, will do. Is it ok that it is a 12v coil on a 24v set up?

No! A 12V coil will burn out if you feed it 24V, which is why there should be a 24V relay switching the 12V coil from one of the batteries.

It ain't rocket science!

It is to me! I never even put oil in a car let alone do mechanics 😁. My Landy is certainly teaching me something new everyday 😜

Latest update.
Landy in with a mechanic that knows what he's on about (used to be into off roading challenges). He owns a Landy, has built Landys and knows what a carburettor is unlike the ****e RAC man who said "Carburettors were on their way out when I became a mechanic 😡"
So, mechanic is under strict instructions not to contact me till she is fixed 😆
