What can i use to remove writing on spare wheel cover??

Hi everyone,
No major problem but just wondered if anybody knows whats the best method to remove the annoying advertising writing on the back of spare wheel cover??
I was going to get a new lockable one when moneys a bit less tight (after hols) and in the meantime me mate reccommended some carb cleaner?? (he said it def works!) anyway used it and its made a nice big white smear
I was thinking maybe turps/thinners but if anyone knows a surefire way i would love to hear it.

I've done this twice - first time with Jif Cream and elbow grease, second time with Acetone (or Hammerrite Thinners).
First time left it a bit dull / scratched.
Before trying Acetone, test it on the material first.

Yeah nail polish remover, or a diluted concentration of actone

Just done it today with nail polish, worked a treat.

NPR is only around 15% Acetone, whereas you can buy industrial acetone which is approx 95%.

Car plan brake and clutch cleaner works a treat too

You lot know a lot about nail polish remover dont ya... just realised why... its the Freelander section.

Thats why I suggested brake and clutch spray, tis much more manly Whatever you use, test it out on a small, out the way area, just incase it melts through the wheel cover

I used cellulose paint thinners wipe on then rub off followed with some back to black came up a treat. Err indoors wouldn't let me loose with the nail polish remover.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a blank one (or one with just a LR logo) off eBay??

you obviously aint seen the price of them have you? Silly money for a piece of plastic. Plus they fade to grey after a while.

We are being GREEN - reduce, re-use, recycle

In fact I threw mine away, they warp and bend going down the motorway like a Rolf Harris Wopper board.

Looks better even with just the steel wheel hanging on the back

That was the idea, however funds are tight(as mentioned in original post) due to holiday season(plus time off work with a knee op hence basic sick pay!) i just wanted it to put me on in meantime.
Anyway, its almost perfect, used nail polish remover(she doesnt know its all gone yet ) and a bit of back to black.

I used White Spirt - Not a good result as it just turns white. I cant bring myself to spend £30 on a peice of plastic that costs nothing like that. They cant be that expensive, everytime mine goes to the garage they slap a new one on.

sprayed mine black - even more macho - so macho, in fact, that i am getting me bird to type this as we speak!!

use zog red eye ,its only £3 pound in the gaylanders . . .but bleedin four squid in the whine bar. . . .

Been there done that, The paint cracks on them after a while.

Cracked even with a real good key for primer to bare plastic, and acrylic paint.

They look so much better without a wheel cover, unless you use it for advertising space for your company.

Get shot of that dickie silver wheel trim too.

Your freelander looks far more rugged without it

I agree - they are there for a reason though - because of it position, spare wheels are much higher up and exposed to the sun more than those on the car - saves ya spare from perishing prematurely.
