Hi folks, I'm new to the forum but certainly not new to Land Rovers, I've been driving them on and off for years however I know very little about them mechanically. Here is my current situation, I own a 1996 300tdi discovery, It has an oil leak, sunroof leak and dodgy drivers door (It'll also need some welding for next mot). I could have lived with these problems but then the clutch started slipping so I decided enough is enough. I have done a deal on a 1990 Defender 110 station wagon. I've had station wagons before and this one beats them all, no oil leaks, chassis, bulk head and crossmember are all perfect, really top notch, the wagon has had a new spray and looks sensational, the only bad point for me is the 2.5N/A engine. I intend to have the oil leak in the disco 300tdi engine fixed and to drop it into the station wagon. Are there any other parts I could transfer to the 110 to improve performance? Also would the alloy wheels from the disco fit the 110? Any help or advice would be really helpful folks, thanks.

personally i would convert gear box to def fitting and fit with disco cross memer and t/box ,and put 300 forward as they were fitted by lr ,neater and all parts become std, exhaust etc ,

no sure if the alloys would fit and even if they did I seem to remember that they aren't rated for the weight of a 110...but hopefully someone will be along later to confirm

if you haven't rear discs the axles off the disco would allow you to achieve this

swap the axles aswell as the disco diffs have a beter ratio save the front propshaft and weigh in the cat seperate ( £40 ) atleast comeing your way save the battery and keep the fusebox and relays from the disco also save the pedal box and master cylinders from the disco and the wiper motor as theyre a half decent replacement for deffender ones with a bit of fiddling

keep the door speakers out of the disco aswell coz theyre usually pretty nifty to fit in a fender aswell and keep the towball off the disco as theyre pretty handy to have lying around if you need it

and dont forget to keep both the horns from under the bonnet as theyre wickedly loud when used with deffender ones ( my little trophy ):D:D:D:D

ps if the battery is any good keep it itll make a good backup and save any battery main lead with connector and any earth strap you find

this should give you enough bits to last yer 110 a lifetime

disco and defender have same diff ratios,ut if you fitted engine as lr you could use disco front prop ,exhaust down pipe, rad intercooler etc

I've spoken to 2 local Land Rover garages and the information they have given me is that the 300tdi will fit into the station wagon but they think I'd be better to get a 200tdi engine. They said it'll go in a lot easier and with less time spent. Any thoughts? Anyone want to buy the old disco?

I thought that the disco diff ratio's are the same as the defender ones , and the transfer box gave the different ratio?
