What bolts do I need for fitting a steering guard?

Morning all! I bought a steering guard the other day, a very substantial one - 8mm thick aluminium guard with 8mm steel supports.

Anyway, it came with the bolts to assemble it but not to attach it to the vehicle. Anyone know what bolts I will need?

Big Ones....

I have no idea....does the guard have predrilled holes to which these bolts would fit??

Measure them and then get bolts that fit that clearance.....

Also some steering guards use exisitng chassis bolts, so check the mounting instructions.

I would also have thought a guard would have been supplied with all the relevant fixings....if you get no luck, call the supplier and ask their advice....if they sell it they should know about their products.

Hi Saint! I bought it secondhand, eBay special, so it is already assembled with the bolts but does not come with fitting bolts. Having said that, I'm fairly certain my mates Disco steering guard didn'ty come with any either, but can't remember what bolts he got or where from!

It should mount to the chassis rails, so as long as the bolts fit trhough that I guess, was just hoping someone would know exactly which bolt so I can go buy some this afternoon

I see...

Best bet would be to measure the holes and get the right bolt to fit that clearance size....

Or if you can take just the mounting leg with you to a hardware store and have a play at what fits best.

Will you have to drill the chassis to fit it?? if you do, you may want to rust protect the new holes by coating in a rust preventor (don't ask which I wouldn't have a clue) and dont forget to squirt some into the chassis rail too around where you have drilled - obviously a fully waxoyled internal chassis would be the very best solution but that costs £££.

No drilling required, it all (should) line up with existing holes! No problem, I'll sort it out - and of course take photo's and let everyone know what bolts they need for next time!

Will do! It needs to be able to withstand an offroad trip across Morocco, and a bent steering arm or holed diff casing would really ruin my day! So it's got front and rear diff guards, HD track rod arm but for some reason I couldn't get a HD drag link to fit - not sure if that's because it has EAS or is a soft dash with SRS, but they were too short? So not got a steering guard for the front arms and keeping an eye out for a fuel tank guard for the rear too. Job done, then!
