Got into my 2000 td5es last night and M light and S light were flashing, it puller away in second i think anyway parked up at home (lots of fu!!!!g landrovers) whent out ten minutes later no lights on and driving normal ? I did leave it parked in reverse any ideas

Yup. That's your gearbox ECU throwing a wobbly.

Mine does that from time to time.

There are a few possible causes. Main battery on its way out or faulty selector position switch, or wiring to the same.

If you can get it plugged into a Hawkeye then I would do that. That'll help.

There are issues I believe with the air con condensing tubes dripping onto the switch itself in some cases. The fix for this is to extend the tubes to take the condensate out of harm's way.

Always put the gear selector in P when parking.

Make sure your main battery is fully charged up by taking it of and giving it a good boost overnight with a charger/conditioner.

When starting the car, don't immediately touch the selector. This is my routine:

1. Start the engine;

2. Then put seatbelt on and prepare for the road, then,

3. Select gear to drive off.

The reason for this routine is that if you have a slightly off battery, leaving things after starting the engine will allow the battery to recover slightly from the starter motor drain, before doing anything else.

I normaly do the same as i believe in letting oil get round turbo but i just slipped up this time thanks for your wisdom as allways Biglad

Hello guvner, if you knew me better you would know that most people wouldn't apply those words to me. I côck-up on a regular basis, like today when I tried to remove the ss bolts off the exhaust manifold to fit a De-EGR blanking plate and one of the bloody bastard ss bolts snapped :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I am in the process of drilling out the old bit of ss bolt which appears to be much harder than the cast manifold so I think it is going to end up looking like swiss cheese.

So, thank you for the implied compliment, but it unfortunately is not warranted.

Need beer..........................

Dave

Hi mate, the thing was that the screw was ok to crack off, was coming undone, unscrewing unscrewing unscrewing - dink !!! Bust:doh:

Anyway it's all done now and all is well. I've also just put in a straight-thru centre section exhaust. Sounds quite meaty now.

Dave

I have no cat, centre straight-through and a std tail section and it sounds ok. Meaty a bit like a V8 but not at all like the Corsaa brigade.

The centre section is ss and cost about £45 from memory.
